USP Administrative Intern / STDT3 (Work Study 2019/20)

The USP Administrative Intern serves an important role in the community development of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning.

Job Description:
Acting as a liaison to the three student organizations housed within USP, the student intern communicates student needs and goals to faculty and staff. The student intern also provides administrative support as USP student organizations plan collaborative events. The student gains leadership and communication skills while supporting their peers in creating events that foster community and a sense of belonging within the department. While providing much needed event and social media support for USP, the intern gains insight into effective outreach strategies, experience with community event planning, and networking opportunities with industry leaders.

The USP Intern will also provide clerical support to the administrative staff for the Department of Urban Studies & Planning. Duties include: managing the front desk, answering phone, fielding requests and inquiries, managing databases, data entry, updating bulletin boards, assisting with events, filing, copying, and sorting mail.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of ALL departmental records
  • Skill in the use of computer and software programs, including email, internet browser,databases, spreadsheets, word processing, online calendar(s)
  • Ability to work with detail
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Skill in maintaining record keeping and filing systems
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment
  • General writing/editing skills and mathematical aptitude
  • Ability to manage a large volume of walk-ins, emails and phone inquiries
  • Must pay UC San Diego student services fees each quarter working 
  • Must have a Work Study award for 2019/20. You will be paid 100% on department funds during the summer.
