What you need to know about STEM:
STEM Preparatory Academy is a public charter school that serves over one thousand students in grades 5-12. The STEM Prep student body is made up of a unique, highly diverse population from Southeast Nashville. We have one of the highest percentage of Hispanic and Latino students in the state and serve nearly half of the highest-poverty neighborhoods in Nashville. Roughly 80% of STEM Prep students have been classified as English Learners during their academic career.
STEM Prep is among the highest performing public middle schools in Tennessee. STEM has been recognized as a Reward School by the state of Tennessee for performing in the top 5% of schools in the state for progress and growth. Since our inception, students have consistently outperformed their peers in both the district and state in every subject area and 100% of our graduating seniors were accepted into college.

The Independent Reading Teachers at STEM Preparatory Academy will oversee the implementation of the Accelerated Reader program for a specific grade level. A strong AR teacher will invest students in their own growth and foster a love for reading in each child. The AR teacher should have a strong love for young adult fiction and be able to manage a classroom effectively.
All STEM Prep teachers are responsible for cultivating and sustaining the STEM Prep culture of care, excellence, and achievement through modeling learning and leadership behaviors for students, teachers, parents, and all members of the community. Associate Interventionists report to the Academic Deans and School Director.
Responsibilities:
- Build strong relationships with students that encourage their success.
- Read aloud fluently and with expression.
- Monitor and assess individualized remediation lessons and independent student work aligned to national and state content standards, and internal STEM Prep goals and benchmarks.
- Engage in continuous and sustained reflection on teaching practices and leadership behaviors, and adapt methods as needed to achieve school goals and performance objectives.
- Develop strong and sustained relationships with parents and members of the community by creating opportunities for involvement in students’ learning and development.
- Plan and collaborate with STEM Prep teachers and colleagues to reach shared goals and objectives.
- Foster a motivating, supportive, learning-centered culture of excellence in a well-structured and managed classroom.
- Be innovative. Create exciting and engaging, inquiry-oriented learning activities.
- Other duties as assigned.

- A teaching license is required.
