Community Engagement and NextGen Stewardship Assistant

Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the National Park Service are seeking an intern who will support the Southeast Region (SER) of the National Park Service in engaging people across all generations in their national parks through service learning, volunteerism, and education outreach activities. SER supports all national park units and partners from North Carolina to the Caribbean and from Louisiana to the Atlantic Cost. The position is located in downtown Atlanta and works with the Regional Program Managers for Youth and Volunteer Programs to conduct research into partner organizations, answer questions regarding policies and practices, and create reports and statistical analyses. The intern will help parks plan events and activities as requested.
 
Position Responsibilities will include:
  • Respond to mailed, emailed, and phoned inquiries from the public, partners, and parks regarding volunteer and youth program activities
  • Conduct research into academic and non-profit partners to draft agreements and strategies for expanded activities targeting students in education on or about public lands
  • Create reports, infographics, and similar marketing materials to assist parks in expanding and recruiting for volunteer and youth activities
  • Assisting park and programs in planning service learning and active learning experiences in or near national parks
  • Assisting supervisor in conducting webinars, conference calls, and similar communications with parks and partners on community engagement and next generation stewardship activities
 
Minimum Requirements: [Include bulleted sentence length statements]
  • At least a bachelor’s degree with preferred academic studies in park and recreation administration, education, communications, or non-profit management
  • At least one year work experience coordinating events, leading youth programs or activities, managing volunteer programs, and/or challenging customer service experience
  • Skills in developing infographics and use of PhotoShop and InDesign
  • Academic experience in conducting research and preparing reports that make recommendations or draw conclusions
  • Comfort working in an office setting in urban environment
  • Maturity and demonstrated experience working both alone and in pairs to accomplish work
 
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a governmental or non-profit setting
  • Demonstrated experience in leading group activities or participating in youth programs or volunteering
  • Conversational Spanish helpful
 
Benefits:
  • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $6,095 (pre-tax).
  • Living Allowance: $520/week (pre-tax)
  • National Park Service Volunteer Program Management (24 hours), Operational Leadership (16 hours), and other formal/informal on the job training
  • Opportunity to support at least two national parks in planning and implementing service learning or work crew experiences
