Graduate Development Program, Associate Specialist, Human Resources

About the Graduate Development Program
National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 8-week Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US.

Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position. Additionally, all Graduates will develop leadership skills through quarterly development session and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid. You will meet amazing individuals, both within our organization and local communities and will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and insight to help you start and progress in your career.

About the Position
Human Resources at National Grid is working with our business units to shape the future of our company and the energy industry. This position will take part in an 18-month rotational experience to help you develop technical and leadership skills. You will complete three 6-month rotations in the HR departments noted below.

Rotations

Employee Experience:
Employee Experience works to create an excellent experience for all employees from hire to retire and everywhere in between. For new hires, we facilitate and coordinate Orientation Day on Day 1 and keep in contact with new employees over the first few months of their employment. 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate and facilitate Orientation Day 2x a month at our training center in Millbury, MA.
  • Troubleshoot onboarding issues with the Services Delivery Center and IT.
  • Support in managing metrics and reports to coordinate onboarding processes, logistics, and communications.

Performance Management:
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) team serves as a strategic HR partner working closely with the business leaders to align business objectives. Performance Lead in partnership with HRBP’s works collaboratively with management on employee relations, under performance, and leave of absence management.  
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Support of EOY calibration of clients to include: compiling reports, creation of calibration PowerPoint decks and analysis of performance data.
  • Creation of performance management recommendations (actions and follow up) based on analysis of historical annual performance ratings.
  • Support other performance management or HRBP program changes or HR initiatives as needed.

Labor & Employee Relations
National Grid’s Labor & Employee Relations Department is responsible for the administration of the various collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) covering represented employees. Benefits and terms and conditions of employment for represented employees are contained within their respective CBAs. The Employee and Labor Relations staff interprets and administers the contracts with respect to grievances, wages and salaries, employee welfare, healthcare, pensions, and other contractual stipulations. Our department also supports the Business Conduct Office by investigating allegations of misconduct or other ethical violations in the workplace for both represented and non-represented employees.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Research negotiated benefits at other utilities.
  • Prepare, review, modify, and maintain collective bargaining agreements and associated documentation.
  • Manage and maintain spreadsheets of union grievances, discipline and litigation.
  • Assist on special projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, Communications or other related major
  • Graduated between May 2019 and May 2020
  • Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 1, 2020 or June 22, 2020
  • Valid driver’s license with safe driving history required. Two of the rotations will require access to a vehicle as travel is involved.
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Presentation & facilitation skills preferred
