Computer System Administration Internship

Computer System Administration Internship

Our research group at Univ. Wisc. --- Milwaukee (UWM) performs state-of-the-art simulations of clouds and turbulence in the atmosphere, with applications to climate and weather (please see http://www.uwm.edu/~vlarson).

Atmospheric simulations are among the grand challenges of high-performance computing. This position will provide an opportunity to learn about the field of computing, develop useful software skills, and work with a group of energetic researchers. Our group uses large parallel supercomputers at UWM and at a supercomputing center. Many undergraduates have worked in our group in the past, and they have had great success in finding subsequent jobs in the private sector or gaining admission to graduate school.

The position duties include developing and maintaining automated nightly tests, security checks, disk backups, and software installations on workstations running Linux. Ability to do system administration and knowledge of a scripting language such as bash or python are required.

The start date is September or October 2019. The position will continue through Aug 2020, with the possibility of extension if mutually desired. The internship will be part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer. The initial pay is $17/hour.

If you are interested, please email a resume, (unofficial) transcript, and the names and contact information of two references to Prof. Vincent Larson, vlarson@uwm.edu, 414 604 6430.
