Online Communications Coordinator

Develops and maintains information for LSU websites in the university's content management solution as well as various other solutions. Works with web team to ensure all new web content meets online accessibility standards. Assists with creating and maintaining the university's online communications, including, but not limited to, websites, email communications, online maps and calendars, mobile apps, and other tools as needed. Serves as essential personnel in times of crises, including working as a member of the university's Emergency Operations Center.

Job Responsibilities

  • 40%Creates, updates and manages content on lsu.edu, including the homepage, upper tier websites, and various other college and department websites. Works as a member of a team to code and build websites. 
  • Tests website coding in a variety of devices, OS platforms, and browsers. 
  • Troubleshoots coding issues and develops solutions. 
  • Assists with content migration. As needed, supports and trains other units in the development and publishing of content in the university's CMS solutions.
  • 20%Attends trainings for online accessibility and shares that training with others on campus who deal with websites and other online content. 
  • Assists Webmaster with all projects related to online accessibility, including quality assurance monitoring and reporting, and maintaining accessibility standards on all centrally-controlled lsu.edu sites.
  • 20%Works with a creative team to develop, create and implement online messaging and content. Ensures that messaging and content is consistent with LSU branding and public relations initiatives and marketing communication strategies. Assists with major projects at Strategic Communications, including LSU's enrollment management and branding projects. Assists in the implementation, development and ongoing maintenance of the campus mobile application, campus map and enterprise-level email solution.
  • 20%Researches and stays up-to-date on university events via the daily media sweep, university calendar, etc.; attends daily and weekly editorial meetings to collaborate with other members of the Strategic Communications staff. Monitors e-mail sent to general accounts, including urelat1@lsu.edu, stratcomm@lsu.edu, oawg@lsu.edu, and responds and/or forwards inquiries to the appropriate university contact. 
  • Essential personnel responsibilities include EOC duty; updating and monitoring all online communications during crisis situations, nights, and/or weekends. 
  • Provides support to Webmaster and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in marketing, public relations, communication, computer science, information technology or related field and at least two years of experience developing content for digital communications or maintaining information on websites.

Preferred Qualifications
At least three years of experience with online accessibility procedures; experience in a university PR office or an advertising agency or design firm.

Special or Physical Qualifications
Ability to report to work during crisis situations to assist with university communications, includes reporting to and working in the LSU EOC. May be required to work after hours to meet project deadlines or to manage time-sensitive content. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure.
