Joint Fires Observer (JFO) and Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Instructor-Contigent

This is a contingent position requiring ARA’s successful acquisition of the government opportunity. Each candidate is required to sign a letter of commitment as part of their application package.

As a Joint Fires Observer (JFO) and Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Instructor on our team, you shall conduct analysis, design and development of JFO sustainment instruction lessons, forms and Tactics Techniques and Procedures (TTP). You will Instruct/Evaluate students on JTAC and JFO tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) under field, simulated, and classroom conditions.

ARA Analyst/Instructors shall ensure the JFO Oversight Program of institutional training instruction and lesson plans are relevant and current by incorporating lessons learned doctrine, evolving TTP from current operations and changes associated with tools and policy through Government training developers into the POI process. You shall provide performance-oriented training and evaluation using U.S. Army TRADOC, U.S. Marine Corps TECOM, and Joint Staff approved TTPs established in the current JFO MOA, TC-3-09.8, and the approved JFO POI. Other required and desired experiences are listed below.

Requirement Experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience
  • SECRET or FVEY SECRET Clearance
  • Associates Degree in any discipline
  • Shall have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience:
  • In JFO-I, JFO-E program management experience at the Battalion or higher level.
  • As a JTAC-I or JTAC-E and have performed duties conducting JTAC program management with experience at the Battalion or higher level.
  • Shall have three (3) years’ experience managing, planning, and controlling current and projected training programs designed to train and evaluate multi-service personnel on Joint Fires / on close air support (CAS) and their effects.
  • Shall have three (3) years’ experience reviewing Joint/DOD training programs and activities through observation of classes, review of training evaluations and inspection reports by higher headquarters, meetings, and observation of individuals conducting live training on the OP and in simulation.
  • Shall have three (3) years’ experience instructing and evaluating students on:
  • JFO TTP under actual, simulated, and classroom conditions;
  • JTAC TTP under actual, simulated, and classroom conditions.
  • Shall be a graduate of the:
  • Army JFO Course or Sister Service equivalent.
  • Joint Terminal Attack Controller Qualification Course (JTACQC) or sister service equivalent.
  • Shall be qualified to perform JFO–E/JFO-I/JTAC-E/JTAC-I duties, maintain qualification, certification and currency requirements under actual, simulated, and classroom conditions per the most current JFO MOA/TC 3-09.8 or the most current JTAC MOA, AFI 13-112 Volume 1 and AFI 13-112 Volume 2.
  • Shall have a minimum of three years’ experience working with simulation for instruction of artillery and close air support in a real, or virtual, environment; Call for Fire Trainer (CFFT) II, Supporting Arms Virtual Trainer (SAVT), CFFFT III simulator / Combined Arms Network (CAN), Virtual Battlefield Systems II (VBS-2), Call for Fire Trainer (CFFT) II, Supporting Arms Virtual Trainer (SAVT), CFFFT III or other joint approved simulator. or other approved simulator. Simulation would have taken the place of actual artillery, aircraft, equipment, or other assets in order to train to specific JFO events specified in the JFO MOA and TC 3-09.8 / JTAC events specified in the JTAC MOA, AFI 13-112 Volume 1.
  • Shall have a minimum of three years’ experience on:
  • Forward Observer (FO)/JFO procedures as a part of a unit FO FIST Certification/JFO sustainment program conducted during live or simulation training.
  • JTAC TTP and procedures as a part of either a unit JTAC sustainment / management/evaluation program; conducted with live and simulation training.

Desired Experience in any combination of the following:
  • Ability to work independently or within a group
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other government provided software
