University of Vermont Medical Center Innovation Program Internship

The University of Vermont Medical Group is seeking highly creative, ambitious, and qualified people to join our team for several summer 2017 internships in the Innovation Program, a new strategic initiative which is focused on innovating healthcare services in our community to improve people’s lives. Interns will spend ten weeks with an interdisciplinary team of colleagues learning from our customers, understanding the gaps in healthcare services, and creating new approaches to bridge these gaps. We are looking for unconventional ways to bring our customers’ emotional, spiritual and physical health together with new products and services. As an Innovation Program intern you will have the opportunity to help us build this exciting new initiative while rapidly developing and testing new ways to help people improve their lives. We are looking for motivated doers who are insatiably curious and eager to push boundaries, while also making our customers the center of our work.

Qualifications

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in industrial design, human-centered or user-experience design, engineering, product design, marketing research, social innovation and entrepreneurship, or is a medical student interested in design and innovation in healthcare.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in design and innovation methodologies, user-centered research, and rapid prototyping.

Interns will apply principles of the scientific method in conjunction with human-centered design to the innovation process. With these tools and methods in hand, you will observe the human experience and collect first-person stories; you will ask relevant, thoughtful questions to understand challenges and opportunities; and you will use these insights to ultimately envision future possibilities through rapid ideation and prototyping that includes testing potential solutions. All of these activities will be focused on improving our customers’ experience of health and healthcare.

This internship will expose you to the rapidly changing healthcare industry. You will have the opportunity to work with a highly skilled team of collaborators at the frontier of healthcare innovation on projects that improve the lives of our customers. Working side by side with our expert innovation team, you will make significant impact on the implementation and outcomes of the Innovation Program.
