Career Peer
Career Peers are dynamic CWRU student paraprofessionals who guide students on career development issues. Career Peers work an average of 8 hours/week and up to 12 hours/week during peak employer recruitment time periods (typically, September, October, January, and February). They also serve as ambassadors for Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education by supporting goals of the Student Success Initiative.
Key job activities:
- Guide students individually and in small groups on career development topics including developing, improving and leveraging resumes, cover letters, CVs, LinkedIn profiles; interview basics; internship, co-op and job search; and networking and informational interviewing.
- Assist students with using online career management resources, such as Handshake and the Alumni Career Network-Wisr.
- Facilitate workshop requests from student clubs and organizations on career-related topics.
- Lead and/or support recruitment, training, and coordination efforts of career fair student volunteers at two annual career fairs.
- Conduct outreach to targeted student clubs and organizations to solicit opportunities to visit meetings to introduce Career Lab and other resources, programs, and services.
- Review and approve new employers and position postings in Handshake online career management system within shared guidelines, ensuring availability of high quality positions for CWRU students.
- Work in collaboration with assigned PGP&EE professional staff to explore, promote, provide, and share resources and events focused on an assigned group of students, such as academic major/career interest area or diverse student population (e.g., women, students of color, LGBTQIAA, international students)

Requirements:
- Be a minimum of sophomore class standing in Fall 2019.
- Willingness and availability to work up to 12 hours per week with 4-8 hours dedicated to providing drop-in services in Career Lab, weekdays between 12 and 6:30 p.m.
- Commitment to participate in all training sessions which include 2-3 days in August prior to the start of fall classes, 1-2 days in January prior to the start of spring classes, and weekly professional development meetings during the academic year.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills or desire to gain leadership experience.
- Ability to work on a team and be a dedicated team player.
- Experience or desire to gain experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Interviewing to start around 4/8/19.
