Summer Orientation Graduate Advisor
Program Description:
You will perform the many tasks associated with advising during summer SouthBound Orientation. Duties include serving as a graduate academic advisor, leading small group advising sessions, assisting students with course registration, completing comprehensive academic advising notes, and developing sound educational academic plans.
Graduate advisors must be prepared to fulfill the following responsibilities:
• Actively and fully participate in extensive mandatory training May 22nd and 23rd
• Serve as a graduate academic advisor for two orientation sessions each week (dates attached)
• Understand University policies and procedures and serve as a guide for new first‐year students
• Display a positive attitude when working with co‐workers, new students, and their families
• Serve as a role model representing The University of South Alabama
$12.00 per hour unless earning intern hours through a graduate program
• Gain experience working as a graduate academic advisor in a university orientation setting
• Gain experience working with our diverse student body
You will also receive the following marketable skills:
• Further knowledge of The University of South Alabama policies, procedures, etc.
• Work with a diverse group of people and make professional connections with fellow advisors and student affairs staff
• Develop leadership & organizational skills
• Satisfaction from helping new students and their families
• Chance to assess and determine personal strengths and abilities
• Practical experience in teamwork
In order to be considered as a candidate, you must:
• Be in good judicial standing with the University
• Be enrolled as a full‐time graduate student for Fall 2019
• Desire to work with students in this capacity
• Be available for all freshmen orientation dates (see dates attached)
• Candidates cannot be in a summer Graduate Assistantship
