Caregiver/Attendant for Daughter with Special Needs
Female Caregiver(s) needed for our daughter with special needs
About this Job:
The job description varies per person and need, but our daughter is the only one who I (Lisa Gamez, mother) hire for and who you will be working with. You must speak directly to CLASS if you're interested in working with more than one person at a time. Our daughter doesn't have any health issues or medication that requires nursing care, therefore, students are great candidates for her. CLASS (Community Living Assistance & Support Services) is a Medicaid Waiver Program in the state of Texas. Through this program, as parents, we are allowed to hire and fire our own attendants for our daughter with special needs. CLASS revises forms, performs credit checks and provides the salary to our employees.
Responsibilities:
We hire individuals who are interested in working with our daughter who has special needs :) She is beautiful inside & out, always happy and has no behavioral issues. She is 26 yrs old but presents as an 8-10 yr old, and has Cerebral Palsy, which affects her both mentally & physically. She uses a few words but is mostly non-verbal using gestures, choice-making & a comm. device as her primary means of communication. She also uses a wheelchair and power wheelchair to get around as well as a ceiling lift for assistance with walking and transferring to & from wheelchairs, bed, etc.. Some of her other equipment includes a gait trainer, bath chair, & therapy ball. She receives therapies such as massages and horseback riding. She needs assistance with all self-help skills & activities of daily living (ADLs) such as feeding, toileting, bathing, grooming, transferring (w/help) & engaging her with activities. She has parents, a twin & younger sister who love her very much & want the best for her :) She loves to bowl, swim, take walks with her power chair, and interact w/her sisters and attendants :) We are looking for female caregivers that have patience and kindness towards her and who will treat her as a person first and one with a disability second. She understands more than she expresses :)
