Archives Assistant Intern
Position Description Summary Statement: Under the guidance of a mentor, the Archives Assistant Intern will work with the Director of Collections Management to process incoming and backlog archival collections. The intern will be rehousing, organizing, and creating finding aids for archival collections. The intern may also be asked to create OCLC catalog records, update website content, and work in CONTENTdm. Other duties might include creating interpretive text for archival collection items.
Intended Purpose of the project: Process backlog archival collections and make them available to researchers as well as to give a student or recent graduate valuable experience for their future.
Essential Position Qualifications:
- Some Master’s degree level course work in either Library Science or Public History
- Experience or familiarity with Archival work
- Excellent communications skills
- Computer orientation skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in teams and independently
- Research skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
