Rotary District 6900 Global Grant Scholarship
GLOBAL GRANT SCHOLAR INFORMATION PACKAGE 2019
Rotary offers prestigious international scholarships of $30,000 for graduate students pursuing careers in fields that support:
· Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
· Disease prevention and treatment
· Water and sanitation
· Maternal and child health
· Basic education and literacy
· Economic and community development
The purpose of the Global Grant Scholarship is to forge a link between Rotary and the development of skilled professionals aligned with Rotary International’s Six Areas of Focus. Rotary District 6900 maintains a district level application process which begins with the submission of a written application that is endorsed by a District 6900 Rotary Club or by a member of the District 6900 Scholarship Committee.
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS 12:00 pm noon, OCTOBER 14, 2019 for applicants planning to begin proposed studies in Fall 2020. Applicants must adhere to eligibility requirements described below and in the Global Grant Scholar Application.
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS
· Excellent leadership skills and potential
· Proven record of success in academic field and/or vocation
· Commitment to community service
· Well defined and realistic goals for academic and professional future
· Plan to pursue a career focused in one Rotary’s Six Areas of Focus
· Understands the vision and values of Rotary
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be proficient in the language in which the course of study is instructed
- Must be pursuing graduate study that enables a career focused on one of Rotary’s Six Areas of Focus
- The program can be no less than one academic year and no more than four academic years
- Must be willing to live in the immediate vicinity of the study institution
- Must be willing to participate with a host Rotary Club and Rotary District during course of study
- Must agree to participate in required pre-departure (Summer 2020) Scholar Orientation Forum in Atlanta - Date TBD
- The grant is for new programs of study – not a continuation
- The applicant may not be any of the following:
o A Rotarian
o An employee of a club, district, or any other Rotary entity
o The spouse, lineal descendant, parent, or grandparent of any person in the first two groups
· May be a member or a Rotaract Club
· Must have legal residence, be employed full time, or be a full-time student the state of Georgia, USA
· Must have the endorsement of a District 6900 Rotary Club
· Must be a citizen of the United States of America
APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
DISTRICT 6900 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 12:00 pm noon, October 14, 2019
Step 1: Nomination by Clubs or District Scholarship Committee
Following a meeting with the applicant to discuss the scholarship purpose as well as the candidate’s plans and goals, Rotary Clubs or a member of District Scholarship Committee may nominate an applicant by sending an email nomination to Stuart Gulley stuart.gulley@woodward.edu. The deadline for nomination of an applicant by a Rotary Club or District Scholarship Committee member is 12:00 pm noon, October 14, 2019. In the event that the applicant is approved as a grant recipient, the Nominating Rotary Club will serve an ongoing advisory role until completion of the scholarship year.
Step 2: Rotary District 6900 Selection Process
Application submission deadline is 12:00 pm noon, October 14, 2019. Applicant submits completed application, resume, and transcript to: Rotary Global Grants Scholarship, c/o F. Stuart Gulley, PhD, President, Woodward Academy, 1662 Rugby Avenue, College Park, GA 30337 – 2199 or stuart.gulley@woodward.edu, with copy to Nominating Rotary Club or member of the District Scholarship Committee.
November 2, 2019 – Interview Date
Only for applicants who are invited to participate in an interview. Interviews will be scheduled to take place at Woodward Academy, 1662 Rugby Avenue, College Park, GA 30337-2199. Interview schedule TBD.
November 8, 2019 – District Finalists Announced
District 6900 Rotarians will collaborate with District Finalists to submit their online Global Grant Scholarship Application to The Rotary Foundation.
Step 3: The Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholarship Application
Applicants who are selected as District Finalists (following interview on 11/3/18) will be sponsored by District 6900 as a Rotary Global Grant Scholarship Candidate. Members of the District 6900 Scholarship Committee will assist the scholar with completion of Step #3 - the Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholar Application.
PLEASE NOTE:
· At the time of the District Selection Process (Step 2) the candidate must identify the desired study program and institution
· At the time of submission of the Rotary Foundation Global Grant Application (Step 3) a Letter of Acceptance from the desired study institution is required
· Additional terms and conditions are outlined in the Global Grants Scholarship Application
· Students submitting applications to District 6900 Scholarship Committee must be US citizens and fulfill one of the following:
o Have legal or permanent residence in the state of Georgia, USA
o Be employed full time in the state of Georgia or be a full-time student in an academic institution located in the state of Georgia

November 8, 2019 District Scholarship Finalists announced
November – December 2019 – District Scholarship Finalists and District 6900 scholarship committee members proceed with Step #3 of the Selection Process. Each District Finalist will be assigned a Rotarian Advisor who will assist the applicant with Step 3 - the Rotary Foundation Scholarship Grant submission.
The timing and duration of The Rotary Foundation Global Grant process varies depending on several factors. A Letter of Acceptance from the Study Institution is required prior to submission of grant application to The Rotary Foundation in Step #3.
