Fine Arts Work Center Summer Internships
Join our creative writing and visual arts community and spend your summer at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, located at the tip of Cape Cod and surrounded by 40 miles of pristine national seashore.
The Fine Arts Work Center’s Summer Internship Program has two areas of focus:
Summer Workshops and Development

SUMMER WORKSHOPS INTERNSHIP
The Fine Arts Work Center seeks five interns for our eleven-week program of one hundred inspiring workshops in creative writing and visual arts taught by award-winning faculty. Our writing workshops include classes in poetry, fiction, memoir, nonfiction, playwriting, and songwriting. Our visual arts workshops include classes in painting, drawing, printmaking, watercolor, and photography.
Summer Workshops interns are vital members of our team and assist with the daily operations of running the summer workshops. This experience provides an excellent introduction to the day-to-day operations of a non-profit arts organization and an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge related to program management.
Interns receive support and guidance from the Work Center’s Summer Program Director and Summer Program Manager and work in a lively, energetic department.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Conducting general office work
Assisting with student and faculty orientation
Organizing and selling faculty books and Work Center merchandise
Setting up event room, a/v equipment, merchandise and books for faculty readings and artist talks
Assisting with cleaning and setting up of visual arts studios, classrooms and common areas
Taking photos and uploading onto social media
Assisting students in the computer and media labs
Introducing students during student night readings
Preparing, setting up and cleaning up of meals and receptions, including daily continental breakfast and weekly receptions and BBQ
Additional as needed: assisting with fundraising events, gallery support and other tbd
We seek outgoing and self-motivated individuals. Prior experience is not necessary, but a background in the arts, experience working with the public, and basic computer skills are an asset. Visit Summer Workshops for more program information.
DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP
The Fine Arts Work Center seeks three interns to provide development and marketing support for our premiere summer fundraising events: Summer Awards Celebration, Annual Art Auction and The Lyric Series. Development interns are vital members of our fundraising team and assist with event planning, organization and implementation. This experience provides an excellent introduction to the day-to-day operations of a non-profit arts organization and an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge about philanthropy and non-profit management. Interns receive support and guidance from the Work Center’s Associate Director/Chief Operating Officer and Administrative/Development Coordinator and work in a lively, energetic department.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Copywriting solicitations
Drafting press releases
Assisting with data entry and compilation
Contacting local businesses for donations
Tracking donations
Assisting with ticket sales
Set-up and production of fundraising events
Staffing fundraising events
Foundation research
Membership support and donor outreach
Additional as needed: summer workshops, gallery support, photography, other tbd

TERMS OF INTERNSHIP
Both internships are unpaid requiring 25 hours of work per week from June 3 through August 24, 2019. Selected applicants must be able to commit to the full length of the program. On-site, dorm-style shared housing is available at a cost of $750 for the length of the internship.
Interns are invited to attend, free of charge, two summer workshops in creative writing and/or visual arts – an excellent opportunity to learn from nationally renowned faculty, engage with other writers and artists and become part of Provincetown’s history as the nation’s oldest continuously operating art colony.
