Visual Communication and Multimedia Marketing Intern
The Center for Excellence in Writing and Communication is offering a quarter-long internship that provides an undergraduate student the opportunity to develop and strengthen skills in visual communication, strategic design, creative outreach, and marketing strategies. The internship introduces hands-on, professional experience in social media marketing, visual design, and creative promotional strategies. The intern will gain expertise in media production, communication, and dissemination techniques, including alternative ways to reach targeted audiences via written, visual and other hybrid forms of media.
Sample Tasks, Projects, or Assignments
- Strengthen CEWC’s social media interactivity, networking, and followership.
- Create and strategically post daily, audience-oriented social media content.
- Develop physical and virtual marketing materials for special CEWC events.
- Conceptualize and create long-term social media campaigns.
- Produce creative multimedia resources such as podcasts and/or videos.
- Design and illustrate resource such as bookmarks, handouts, Prezi presentations, graphic aids, and other forms of virtual and physical publicity.
- Contribute to CEWC website.
Four hours per week and previous experience with social media marketing, design, and photography is required. The intern will report to Internship Advisor and Writing Specialist Lindsey Allgood. Together, the intern and internship advisor will co-develop an ideal project agenda that aligns with CEWC’s seasonal marketing goals. The intern may work remotely and/or in the CEWC and will be encouraged to attend some staff meetings and meet weekly with the internship advisor. Students have direct access to needed technology via UCI’s Multimedia Resources Center (MRC).

- Attend to audience needs through practical and relevant media-oriented strategy.
- Elicit audience feedback and interaction via social media, Writing Center visitation, etc.
#4: Strategic Planning
- Summarize and evaluate emerging trends in multimedia and social media strategy.
- Plan effective, sustainable social media strategy for CEWC
- Develop marketing plans for new and existing CEWC services that increase exposure on campus.
- Simultaneously strategize and organize multiple projects on varied short- and long-term deadlines.

- Communicate and collaborate with internship advisor.
