Research Associate/Senior Research Associate, Yeast Cell Biology & Automated Microscopy

Who we are:
Calico is a research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies to increase our understanding of the biology that controls lifespan, and to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Executing on this mission will require an unprecedented level of interdisciplinary effort and a long-term focus for which funding is already in place.

Position description:
Calico is inviting applications from researchers with experience in microbial cell biology and genetics who are excited to be part of a scientific team focused on dissecting causal events in the cellular aging process using yeast as a model system. The successful applicant will work closely with other members of our group to run and further develop a microfluidic platform to investigate and monitor the aging process in cells. As this individual will be expected to contribute to the further development of critical technologies, previous experience with automated-microscopy and microfluidic platforms will be considered a strong plus.

Position requirements:
Experience Requirements:
  • Experience working with microbial systems, preferably with Saccharomyces cerevisiae
  • Experience with microscopy
  • Exposure to laboratory equipment used in high-throughput screening (e.g. liquid handling robotics, automated microscopes, flow cytometers, etc. )
  • Familiarity with at least one general programming language (preferably Python)
  • Image processing and/or hardware control experience are a plus, but not a requirement
  • Experience with microfluidic devices highly desired

Other Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, or related field
  • > 2 years of relevant lab experience
  • Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques
  • Evidence of great time management and problem solving skills in the lab
