Development Intern for National Nonprofit - Civil Air Patrol

Looking for two senior level/masters level students interested in the areas of non-profit fundraising and communications. Field of studies may include (but not limited to) Marketing, Business, English and/or Communication.
 
Internship would occur during Summery 2019 or Academic Year 2019/2020 and is without pay or benefits. Intern would work for Civil Air Patrol, a non-profit corporation with programs focused in search and rescue/emergency response, cadet programs for youth ages 12-18, and aerospace education with a focus on STEM. Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and its national headquarters are located at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL. Intern supervisor, Kristina Jones, MA, CFRE is located in the Abilene, TX.
 
Intern would establish available hours at beginning of internship (expected 8-10 hours a week) and would be evaluated at end of internship based on attendance and experience gained. Civil Air Patrol’s internship is not a secretarial position.
 
Work environment is telecommuting with some face-to-face meetings at the campus library or a local coffee shop. Must have ability to receive video calls and/or FaceTime. Must have access to a computer. Civil Air Patrol will provide cloud-based tools and login information.
 
Intern must pass a background check conducted by Civil Air Patrol and agree to policies and procedures of the organization, including confidentiality of information.
 
Depending on time available for internship, by the end of the first semester the student should have a basic understanding of the five categories listed below. By the end of the second semester, the student will have a working knowledge of the following categories:
 

Donor Publications
Newsletters & Other Communications
·   compiling information
·   writing articles and editing
·   projecting and meeting deadlines
·   email set-up and delivery (Constant Contact)
·   ongoing monitoring of system analytics
·   segmented constituent communications
·   website content and updates
Donor Database and Prospecting
·   basics of donor management
·   ability to pull donor records and conduct donor research
·   enhancement of donor information & donor reports
·   dashboard reporting
Grants
·   identifying grant sources to meet a funding needs
·   writing and editing a proposal to meet grant criteria
·   assembling documentation needed for grant

Fundraising Training

·    establish training objectives and outline

·    compile content relevant to target audience

·    work with instructional design manager to create an online course

·    create evaluation process for course participants

Fundraising by Type of Campaign (Event, Online, Mail, Social, etc)

·    developing criteria targeted list

·    assisting with appeal writing and response mechanism

·    set-up of campaign and tracking

·    basic fundraising formulas for determining return on investment
