Internship-GIS

American Fork City is offering an Internship for those interested in a career with GIS.

Work schedule will be approximately 10-20 hours per week during the school year, and approximately 20 hours per week during the summer months.

Under supervision of the GIS supervisor in the engineering division, the GIS intern performs a variety of general GIS and engineering duties. Develop, maintain and update various shape files and file geodatabase layers of City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) as directed by supervisor. Develop, maintain and update various coverage’s and database layers of the City’s GIS/Engineering utility information as directed by the City Engineer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
▪ Use GPS unit to collect point and line data for various City utilities and other assets.
▪ General GIS and CAD drafting and analysis
▪ Maintain and update the city’s GIS data using ESRI’s ArcGIS for Desktop Basic and AutoCAD Map 3D software.
▪ Maintain and update city GIS maps including, but not limited to, water, sanitary sewer, storm water, streets, subdivisions, easements, etc.
▪ Use AutoCAD to create and review engineering drawings for detailed information to use in GIS data entry.
▪ Review and perform coordinate geometry calculations on preliminary subdivision plats.
▪ Maintain computer database records for data files and GIS layer information.
▪ Help maintain an accurate map filing system for Public Works
