Job Coach / Peer Mentor - State and Federal Work Study Only
Are you a community-minded and responsible WA State or Federal Work Study student who is interested in making a difference in your community?
WISE (Washington Initiative for Supported Employment) is currently looking for Work Study eligible students to work with and mentor individuals with disabilities who are developing or mastering their job skills, while getting ready for the transition from School to Work.
The hours and shift times will vary based on availability but can often be flexible with your schedule.
This is a great opportunity for anyone going into Health Sciences, Social Work, Education, Special Education, Human Development, Psychology, or any other field that you may need to consider the inclusion of individuals with disabilities (spoiler: that's every field).
As a job coach your role is very much like the coach of a sports team… you are teaching a person the fundamentals they need to be successful. Your day could include helping someone how to master a new task at work, use new apps on an iPad, safely riding Metro from one location to another, modeling appropriate social interactions, and/or learning how to be a part of a team.
This is a position with multiple locations possible, depending on your flexibility to travel during the school day. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is not required, but is helpful.
*Must pass a background check and complete required training and orientation before starting work.
*Preference given to students willing to work off-campus, as there are more off-campus positions than on-campus positions. Travelling by car or bus is preferred.
*This is for work study students only* Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if unsure of eligibility.
