Community household Hazardous Waste Program Student Technician
Under close supervision assist in the operation of the Santa Barbara County Household Hazardous Waste Program. Typical duties are as follows:
Up to 20 hours/week, working weekends 9:00am-3:00pm. Needed to be available for summer.
Learn how to segregate waste streams beginning with latex, oil base paint, aerosols and universal waste like batteries, florescent bulbs, motor oil and antifreeze. Eventually understanding the overpack waste streams of flammable, corrosive, toxic etc...
Learn how to prepare waste drums in compliance with the Department of Transportation rules.
Learn how to prepare a Manifest and Bill of Lading for the shipment of hazardous waste.
Interact with the public informing them about the rules and regulations and options for the disposal of hazardous waste. Assist EH&S staff as needed. Potential for full-time employment upon graduation.
