Dining Services - Student Manager 2018/19

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to work as a team leader in Dining Services during service of residential dining, catering, and retail operations. Student managers must provider direction to students to ensure the highest quality customer service for all customers and provide a safe and enjoyable work environment for student employees.


Education/Experience

·         2 semesters of experience in Dining Services or equivalent experience required 

·         Most recent evaluation maintain a level of on target performance

Position Responsibilities

1.           Support the mission and vision of Concordia College and demonstrate the competencies as defined for this position

2.           Open and close the operation, including but not limited to locking/unlocking, cashiering, etc.

3.           Supervise and provide direction and training to student employees

4.           Ability to engage our customers with an attitude of willingness and dedication to serve

5.           Ensure the highest standards of customer service are being met

6.           Follow proper health, sanitation, and safety regulations

7.           Aid in resolving routine customer service issues

8.           Assist with student employee relations and discipline, and performance improvement

9.           Complete student evaluations each semester as assigned

10.         Additional duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities

  • Basic employment skills: reading, writing, performing simple math, operating basic equipment (i.e. copier, calculator, etc.)
  • Ability to use industrial kitchen equipment as well as ability to weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes using various kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment which includes temperature variations and noise, and tolerate long periods of standing and walking, as well as short periods of kneeling, reaching, squatting, and bending
  • Communication skills to give directions to student employees and work with other staff to ensure that proper procedures are being followed
  • Skills in customer service and supervision to include knowledge of quality assurance, customer contact, policy enforcement, supervision of young adults, health, and sanitation
  • Maintain above target performance throughout student manager experience
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
