Volunteer Pre-K - High School Teachers in Honduras for 2018-2019
Olancho Aid Foundation is seeking volunteer teachers. In the elementary school teachers may work with students from preschool to 6th grade and can expect to teach one class of students in several different subject areas, such as math, reading, English language skills, and science. Volunteer teachers in our bilingual high school work with students from 7th to 12th grade and can expect to teach one general subject across several grade levels. We do our best to match a volunteer’s preferences with his or her final assignment, though volunteers should approach their assignments with flexibility.
Responsibilities as a teacher across all grade levels include planning and delivering lessons, evaluating student performance, and participating in school-wide activities. All classes taught by volunteers are in English.

Duties and Responsibilities
Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching strategies such as whole class presentations, discussions, small group work, and demonstrations.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
Assign and grade classwork and homework.
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.
Perform administrative duties such as hall and cafeteria monitoring
Report to the principal at Santa Clara Bilingual School (CEBSC) or instituto Bilingual Santa Clara (IBSC) and the Superintendent of Schools of the Olancho Aid Foundation (OAF)
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree
US teaching certification
Excellent English language skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing
Ability to meet professional challenges and accept new living experiences in a different culture
Ability to work independently and take initiative in developing a new program for the organization
Minimum one year teaching experience
Preferred:
Master’s Degree
Experience teaching ESL
Experience living/working outside of the US
Spanish language skills
Though we accept volunteers from all backgrounds and beliefs, candidates should be willing to live in accordance with Christian values and serve as positive representatives of the Catholic Dioceses of Juticalpa, Honduras. In addition, volunteers will be required to accompany students on religious retreats and Catholic mass on occasion.
Benefits
A stipend of 7,500 Lempiras per month (approximately $325, depending on the exchange rate): Due to the low cost of living in our area, this is enough to cover food, utilities, personal care items, and modest travel expenses. It is possible to save money with this amount and still live comfortably.
