We are providing a Limited Term Employment (LTE ) opportunity: Part-Time Clerical Technician (morning position) – Downtown Education Center.

PSRP salary B21 – $16.96 per hour.

Madison College offers a generous benefit program. However health and dental benefits are not provided for this positon. This posting may be used to fill similar vacancies that occur within six months of the closing date.

Hours: This is a part-time, 18 hours per week, 52 weeks per year position, working Monday-Thursday 8:00 am–12:30 pm. However, schedule is subject to change by the supervisor.

Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

This position creates a quality retail experience for Campus Store customers, and is expected to work collaboratively with other College and work unit employees, embracing the College's mission, vision and values.

This position assists with the day-to-day operation of the Downtown Campus Store, which includes the sale of food and other specialty supply items at the Downtown Campus. This includes planning and organizing food, specialty book and supply sales; supervising student help; and, providing other Campus support functions such as mail delivery and distribution, shipping and receiving, and receiving non-tuition/student fee payments.

This position works independently the majority of the time. Unusual work problems which fall outside standard policy and procedures are referred to the appropriate supervisor. This position will be cross-trained and may be assigned to work within the work unit based on other work-related needs.

This position reports to the Downtown Campus Administrator.

Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

1. Generates sales and assists with operating the Campus Store. Monitors inventory and ordering of specialty supplies, textbooks and food items.

2. Ensures fiscal practices and procedures are carried out aligned with College policy and guidelines. Responsible for retail revenues from all operational services, registers and receivables, including preparing cash drawers and daily reports. Also completes and submits daily, weekly and monthly reports including bursar and inventory reports.

3. Provides customer service, assists customers with book and food sales, stocks specialty art supplies, and provides information.

4. Receives and checks supply orders. Fills customer orders for merchandise; including online, phone, and in-store customers. Stocks shelves, creates displays, and develops promotions to increase sales. Works with vendors to ensure Campus Store-specific stock.

5. Communicates with School of Academic Advancement, Continuing Education and College Transfer Art staff and faculty to ensure appropriate textbooks and supplies are available for purchase by their student populations (including high school completers, adult basic education, English Language Learners and art students).

6. Processes mailroom, shipping and handling needs at DTEC including shipping, receiving, sorting and distribution of mail in accordance with College policy and guidelines.

7. Provides back-up support for Campus operations as requested by Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of retail operations, food sales, customer service and basic business practices with a focus on communications and accounting.

2. Ability to work in a complex and detail-oriented position. Ability to multi-task and maintain organization within the work area in a fast-paced environment.

3. Ability to operate office machines including, but not limited to the following: point-of-sale systems, microcomputers, photocopiers, facsimile machines, calculators, and cash registers.

4. Ability to perform mathematical calculations and work with complex formulas. Ability to analyze/reconcile data derived from different sources or documents.

5. Demonstrates a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.

6. Ability to coordinate own work with that of others, to review the work of student employees and maintain appropriate quality standards for assigned unit of work.

7. Skill in dealing tactfully with the public, establish and maintain effective working relationships.

8. Communicate effectively with students, staff and general public both orally and in writing.

9. Ability to perform cash handling activities; operate electronic cash registers and reconcile cash receipts.

10. Ability to stand for prolonged period of time. Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

11. Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds and persons of differing disabilities.

12. Ability to type/keyboard and use Microsoft Office® Suite products including Excel, Word and Outlook. Familiarity with PeopleSoft/Student Administration Services.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. One (1) year progressively responsible experience in a clerical or administrative assistant role including retail management experience.
