Research Assistant - Geriatrics
The National Institutes of Health-funded Long Life Family Study, based at Boston Medical Center seeks a Research Assistant to be responsible for collection and management of study participant data. Data collection will include working as a member of a team with other research assistants to collect data from study participants ages 35 to 105 years by telephone. Data include medical history, functional status, and family tree information. Additionally, the family trees will need to be verified using online genealogical databases and vital status searches and entered into a study database. The research assistant will be responsible management of the pedigree database and generation of data reports.
· Contacts study participants to administer health questionnaires and update family tree information by using approved methodologies
· Reviews the data collection forms for each enrollee for completion and quality; ensures timely and accurate entry.
· Follows established procedures, making judgmental decisions re reliability and accuracy of results, repeating procedures when needed.
· Requires initiative and independence.
· Begins to synthesize and interpret results.
· May prepare written and verbal status reports.
· Uses statistical and graphic summaries.
· Assist Investigators with manuscript and presentation preparation and research.
· Participates in staff meetings/initiatives including appropriate quality improvement and education activities, or if unable to attend non-mandatory activities, accepts responsibility to review meeting minutes and becomes knowledgeable of issues discussed.
· May perform office-related duties such as answering phones, picking up and delivering mail, storing and distributing office supplies, handling faxes, scanning, filing, photocopying, collating materials, maintaining the update of policy manuals, etc.
· Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
· Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the hospital’s goals and mission.
· Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
· Must adhere to all of Boston Medical Center’s RESPECT behavioral standards.
Bachelor’s degree is required. Studies in Gerontology are a strong plus.
