High School Math Tutor – GoldCap Education (Iowa City)

About the Role
GoldCap Education is looking for a strong high school math tutor to join our growing tutoring team in Iowa City.
Our primary need is for someone who can help high school students understand course material, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build confidence in math. Depending on your strengths and experience, there may also be opportunities to provide ACT, SAT, or PSAT preparation.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong knowledge of high school math, including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II; ability to tutor Precalculus, Calculus, or Statistics is a plus
- Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt instruction to each student’s needs
- Strong academic, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to connect well with high school students in a one-on-one setting
- Dependability and comfort planning individualized tutoring sessions
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or classroom experience preferred
- Test-prep experience is a plus, especially familiarity with ACT, SAT, or PSAT content and test-taking strategies
Applicants do not need to be licensed teachers. Graduate students, education students, students in math-related fields, licensed teachers, and experienced tutors with strong high school math skills are encouraged to apply. Test-prep experience is welcome but is not required.
Responsibilities
- Provide primarily one-on-one high school math tutoring, with possible small-group opportunities
- Help students understand concepts, work through challenging problems, and prepare for quizzes and exams
- Set learning goals and monitor student progress
- Communicate clearly with families about goals and progress
- Coordinate scheduling and basic reporting with the GoldCap tutoring team
- Provide test-prep tutoring when your qualifications and student needs align
Schedule, Location & Pay
Schedule: Flexible, based on tutor and student availability. Initial opportunities are typically approximately one hour per week per student, with the potential to take on additional students.
Location: Downtown Iowa City; in-person availability preferred. Some online opportunities may also be available.
Pay: $25–$45/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
