Physics AI Trainer

Physics AI Trainer (Remote, $40 to $125/hr)

Description:

Put your physics background to work teaching AI. We're looking for physicists, applied physicists and physics grad students to help DataAnnotation, the AI training platform, evaluate how AI models handle real physics work: derivations, numerical simulations, experimental data analysis and order-of-magnitude reasoning. It's fully remote, flexible work you can do around classes, research or a current job, including evenings and weekends.

You'll build realistic problems from your own research or coursework, such as a derivation with stated approximations, a simulation to set up or a dataset to fit. Then you'll grade how AI models solve them and document exactly where they go wrong: broken conservation laws, unit and dimension errors, approximations used outside their limits.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in physics, applied physics, astrophysics or a closely related field; master's and PhD students are a great fit
  • 2+ years of research or applied experience outside undergraduate study preferred
  • Hands-on computation in Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, Julia or C++; Python is a strong plus and required on some projects
  • Comfortable with error analysis, uncertainty and sanity-checking results
  • Strong written English and familiarity with AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude
  • Based in the US, Canada or UK

Pay and hours: $40 to $125 per hour depending on project and expertise, paid via PayPal. Minimum 10 hours a week on your own schedule, and many projects offer 30 to 40. This is an independent contractor role.

How it works: Apply here on Handshake with your resume. If your background is a fit, you'll get a link to an unpaid online skills assessment (about 1 to 2+ hours). Pass it, and you'll complete onboarding and start on paid projects.

Already with DataAnnotation? If you've already taken a DataAnnotation starter assessment, you aren't eligible for this posting. If you only created an account and haven't taken an assessment, you're welcome to apply.
