Data Engineer Intern (paid or work-study)
We are excited to open several full-time Data Engineer Intern opportunities at Firework! Gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers and technical leaders building and maintaining data infrastructure that support the data-driven decision-making. Your work directly impacts our enterprise customers.
We have hired many interns into full-time employment in the past. Open to sponsorship. Pay starts at $20-$25/hour. Roles are on-site in our San Mateo office.
Some things you'll work on:
1) Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and infrastructure that support analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning applications2) Support the development of ETL/ELT processes to collect, transform, and organize data from various sources3) Write and optimize SQL queries and Python scripts to support data processing, reporting, and analysis4) Collaborate with data engineers, software engineers, and analytics teams to improve data accessibility, quality, and reliability5) Help build and maintain data tools and dashboards that provide actionable insights into business and product performance6) Gain hands-on experience with cloud-based data infrastructure, data warehouses, and modern data processing technologies7) Assist in troubleshooting data pipeline issues, identifying performance improvements, and implementing solutions with guidance from senior engineers8) Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and team meetings while learning engineering best practices
We prefer you have:
1) Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in CS, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field2) Foundational knowledge of Python and SQL3) Basic understanding of databases, data structures, and data processing concepts4) Familiarity with ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, or data warehousing concepts5) Interest in learning modern AI and data technologies6) Strong analytical and creative problem solving with a willingness to learn7) Proactive attitude, intellectual curiosity, and enthusiasm for working as a team
