General Research Summer Internship
General Research Internship at LIO
We are looking for passionate people to join our team for internships in Summer 2027. If you have an interest in LIO or any questions, we would love to hear from you.
About LIO
LIO (formerly Oxehealth) is a global leader in vision-based patient monitoring, empowering mental health clinicians to deliver safer, more efficient care through our all-in-one platform. Founded as a spin-out from Oxford University, we hold the world's first medical device certifications for the non-invasive measurement of vital signs and sleep from a camera and we have developed alerts that support staff reduce the risk of falls and self-harm. Our technology preserves patient dignity while minimizing disturbances and improving outcomes. As the trusted partner for one in two English mental health trusts and with rapid expansion underway in the US, we anticipate continued strong growth through 2026.
Our research team solves unique engineering challenges tailored to the complex environment of mental health wards. We leverage machine and deep learning for computer vision and signal processing to extract clinically useful information from standard digital video. Crucially, this research is not theoretical; our algorithms are currently deployed in over 100 hospitals in the UK and the US, directly improving real-world safety and care outcomes for patients and staff.
The Internship
We offer flexible 2-3 month paid internships for undergraduates, graduates and post-docs who share our passion for creating cutting-edge technology.
What you’ll be doing
You will join our collaborative team of researchers and engineers to advance our research and build the company’s core software.
- Real-World Projects: We don't believe in busy work. You will tackle real-world problems that support patient care, working on the same projects as our permanent staff.
- Embedded Learning: You will be fully embedded in the research team, paired with experienced researchers and engineers who will support your development and help you learn new skills.
- Tailored to You: We believe people thrive when working on projects that excite them. We look to understand your specific interests and career goals and then match you with a project that aligns with your interests, which could include Research, Data Science, Software Engineering, Optical Hardware Engineering or Clinical Research.
What we can offer you
- Culture: The opportunity to work in one of the UK’s fastest-growing HealthTech companies in an environment that is innovative, challenging, and fun.
- Hybrid Working: We offer a hybrid working environment. We value coming together as a team in our Milton Park office, we meet as a team twice a month and many of us work in the office several days each week. We also embrace the benefits of remote work and you can work from wherever suits you.
- Competitive Compensation: Compensation that is competitive with comparable opportunities.
We view internships as the best path to permanent positions. An internship is the best way to explore if a permanent position with LIO is the best next step for your career.
Who You Are
We are looking for motivated self-starters who share our passion for creating cutting-edge technology. You are a talented undergraduate, graduate, or post-doc who thrives on challenging problems and possesses a growth mindset. You are excited by the prospect of building an impactful product and want to collaborate with a team to make a real difference.
