Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Intern
Company Description
www.campusmesh.com
CampusMesh is the verified campus network — a social and professional platform built exclusively for U.S. college students, alumni, and faculty. Every account is verified through a .edu identity, so the network is real people, not anonymous accounts or bots.
Since launching our product , we've grown to thousands of verified students across 25+ universities , and we're live on web, iOS, and Android. We're an NVIDIA Inception company, backed by a founding team out of Microsoft, Amazon, and Columbia Alumn.
The platform is built on six pillars: verified identity, Community Forums, campus events, Jobs & Internships, Student Marketplace, and CampusIQ — our AI campus assistant.
About the Role
We’re seeking an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Intern to help develop LLM applications, AI agents, data pipelines, and machine learning models using AWS cloud AI tools and modern open-source frameworks.
You’ll work with our engineering and product teams to turn ideas into working prototypes, evaluate their performance, and help prepare successful solutions for production.
What You’ll Do
Build LLM applications: Develop features for knowledge discovery, summarization, conversational assistance, and personalized experiences.
Develop AI agents: Create workflows that use tools, retrieve information, and perform tasks with appropriate permissions and human oversight.
Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): Prepare documents, generate embeddings, and build retrieval workflows using vector databases.
Create data pipelines: Collect, clean, transform, and validate authorized datasets for AI applications and model development.
Support model training: Prepare datasets and assist with training, fine-tuning, and evaluating models where appropriate.
Work with AWS: Use services such as Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, Amazon S3, and AWS Lambda to build and deploy AI workflows.
Evaluate and improve quality: Measure accuracy, relevance, latency, and cost; investigate hallucinations and other failure cases.
Build responsibly: Apply privacy safeguards, secure data handling, and testing for prompt injection and unintended agent actions.
Collaborate and document: Integrate AI features with backend services and document experiments, results, and implementation decisions.
What We’re Looking For
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or demonstrating equivalent practical experience.
Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with Git.
Foundational understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and model evaluation.
Familiarity with LLMs, prompting, embeddings, and APIs.
Basic knowledge of SQL, data processing, and cloud computing.
Ability to troubleshoot independently, communicate clearly, and learn quickly.
Nice to Have
Experience with Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, or other AWS services.
Exposure to frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or Hugging Face.
Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Familiarity with vector databases, Docker, or model deployment.
A coursework, personal, research, or open-source project involving LLMs, AI agents, or machine learning.
You do not need experience with every tool listed to apply.
What You’ll Gain
Hands-on experience building AI features for an education technology platform.
Exposure to the AI development lifecycle—from data preparation and experimentation to evaluation and deployment.
Collaboration with a startup’s engineering and product teams.
Opportunities to contribute ideas and demonstrate measurable project outcomes.
