Professional Development Trainer, California

If you teach in Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno, Sacramento, or anywhere in between, and other teachers already come to you for classroom management advice, this role puts that skill to work. The Center for Teacher Effectiveness is looking for California educators who want to become professional development trainers.

You'd train school staffs in classroom management, sometimes in their building and sometimes over video. More than 400,000 educators in all 50 states, California included, have been through our training since 1993. Nobody holds a territory, so the schools you work with can be down the street, across the state, or somewhere else entirely.

Trainers are 1099 independent contractors, and hours aren't guaranteed. A typical training day pays $1,000 or more, with payment going out on Fridays. You'll book most of your own trainings by contacting schools with a method we teach during certification, and a National Director drafts each contract and negotiates the terms for you.

First comes our virtual Weekend Certification: 36 hours over three days and two weekends, starting with the content and ending with facilitation. Certification has tuition. You can use sponsorship or pay over time, and the certification is eligible for 4 graduate credits through UMass Global. Orientation, materials, and continued support are included.

Most of our trainers still teach or run a school, and they fit trainings into evenings, weekends, personal days, and summer break. The role suits teachers, principals, instructional coaches, counselors, and other K-12 educators, whether current or former. Students are welcome to apply as long as they intend to finish certification.
