Description :

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) for a part-time, in-person position in Red Wing, MN for the 2026-2027 school year. This opportunity is ideal for professionals who are passionate about supporting students with visual impairments in developing the orientation and mobility skills needed to navigate school, home, and community environments safely and independently.

The selected candidate will provide direct services to two students within a member district, collaborating closely with educational teams, families, and related service providers to support student success and independence.

Responsibilities:

• Provide orientation and mobility services to students with visual impairments.




• Assess students' mobility needs and develop individualized goals and recommendations.




• Deliver direct instruction in safe travel techniques and environmental awareness.




• Support students in developing independent navigation skills within school and community settings.




• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, families, and related service providers.




• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal development and progress reporting.




• Maintain accurate service logs, documentation, and progress notes.




• Conduct ongoing evaluations and adjust instructional strategies as needed.




• Promote student independence, safety, and confidence.

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) or eligibility for certification.




• Experience working with children and students with visual impairments preferred.




• Knowledge of assessment, instructional strategies, and mobility training techniques.




• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within educational teams.




• Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.




• Ability to travel within the assigned district as needed.
