Assistant Robotics & Coding Instructor (Part-Time) — West & Southwest Houston
# Assistant Robotics & Coding Instructor (Part-Time) — West & Southwest Houston
LearnToBot teaches hands-on robotics and coding classes for kids ages 6–15 across the Houston area. Students build with real electronics — sensors, motors, RC cars, robotic arms — write real code, and take everything they build home. We are hiring college-student assistant instructors for our west and southwest Houston classes. This is the entry role: you support the lead instructor, learn our projects, and grow into leading your own classes.
## Where you will work — read this first
Our classes run in Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land, Spring/The Woodlands, and Houston. **You must live on the west or southwest side of Houston and be available in those areas.** Our immediate openings include Thursday afternoons at Westbury Christian School in southwest Houston, plus other weekday-afternoon classes nearby.
Equipment is stored at Extra Space Storage, 3800 Highway 6 S, Houston. Assistant instructors run equipment pickups and drop-offs too. **A reliable car and a valid driver's license are required for this job.**
## The job
1. Help the lead instructor run weekly project-based robotics and coding classes for kids ages 6–15 — you work hands-on with students while they build.
2. Pick up, transport, and return class equipment between storage and the class location. Driving between storage and class is paid time.
3. Set up before class and pack up after; help students who get stuck on a build or a line of code.
4. Confirm your shifts in our app, arrive early, and help complete the class report after each class.
## Pay and mileage
- **$17–$21/hour**, depending on experience, with a clear path to Senior Instructor pay ($18–$25/hour) as you learn to run projects and classes independently.
- Mileage: your normal commute is on you. Driving beyond the first 25 miles each way is reimbursed at **$0.76/mile**.
- Part-time during the school year; full-time hours available during school holidays and camps.
## Who this fits
- Current college student (University of Houston students encouraged) in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or another STEM field — or a strong tech background without the degree.
- Motivated and comfortable with technology. Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, or Python experience is a plus, not a requirement — we train you, and you build every project yourself before helping teach it.
- Experience with kids (tutoring, camps, coaching, babysitting) is a plus.
- Must pass a background check (required by our school partners).
## How to apply
In your application, include:
1. The area/neighborhood where you live.
2. Whether you have a reliable car.
3. Your weekly availability, especially weekday afternoons and Thursdays.
Applications without these three answers will not be considered.
