Kindergarten to 1 Teacher

Kindergarten to 1 Teacher

Company Description

At Ignision, our passion is to ignite the flame of potential in each student, empowering them to be the best versions of themselves for college admissions and beyond.

Position Overview

The Kindergarten to 1 Teacher works with young learners, typically ages 4 to 7, to build early academic skills, confidence, and school readiness. Much of the teaching is one-on-one and play-based, delivered both online and onsite, and includes helping young children prepare for private school admission visits and interviews. The role also supports small-group programs such as summer camps. Teachers follow Ignision's structured curriculum, track each child's growth, and partner closely with parents and colleagues to help every child succeed.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction

  • Deliver engaging one-on-one sessions, online and onsite, using Ignision's lesson materials and teacher guides.
  • Build foundational skills in early literacy (phonics, sight words, vocabulary), math and problem solving, and storytelling.
  • Develop communication, public speaking, and social-emotional skills such as greeting new adults, following directions, taking turns, and explaining their thinking.
  • Prepare young children for school admission visits through practice activities and mock interviews.
  • Use play-based, hands-on activities and adapt instruction to each child's level, interests, and attention span.

Session and Classroom Management

  • Create a warm, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported.
  • Keep sessions well paced and on track, with clear routines and positive reinforcement.
  • Manage small groups and daily routines during camps and other group programs.
  • Prepare and organize materials for both online and in-person sessions, and keep technology running smoothly for online lessons.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Observe and assess each child's progress across academic and social-emotional skill areas using Ignision's assessment tools.
  • Keep accurate, timely session notes and progress records.
  • Share regular feedback with parents, including progress updates and recommendations for practice at home.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous teaching or tutoring experience with young children is preferred. Experience with one-on-one instruction, online teaching, or school admissions preparation is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and session management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including clear and professional communication with parents.
    • Ability to follow a structured curriculum while adapting activities to each child.
    • Comfort teaching online and using virtual teaching tools.
    • Creativity, patience, compassion, and a passion for working with young children.
    • Mandarin proficiency is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Work arrangement: Hybrid. Sessions are taught both online and onsite at our San Jose location.
  • Hours: Part-time and full-time positions available, typically afternoons and weekends during the school year, with occasional evenings for meetings, events, or professional development. During summer, there will also be full-day camps for K to 2 students.
  • Environment: Work takes place in a classroom or online setting. Onsite work may involve standing for long periods and some physical activity, such as playing with children or setting up materials.

Salary and Benefits

  • Pay: Competitive pay based on experience and education level. Range is $30 to $40 per hour.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit a resume and any relevant certifications or transcripts. Interviews will include a teaching demonstration and a discussion of the candidate's teaching philosophy and approach to working with young children.
