Laboratory Intern - Inorganic Wet Chemistry

Job Description

This is a student internship which provides opportunities for students with a major in biological sciences or chemistry to experience what it would be like working in a real world, regulated environmental laboratory.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

This person will be involved in bench analysis. Skills will be developed for the general analysis of environmental samples in:

• Sample preparation.
• Procedures to maintain and clean all glassware.
• To understand and implement quality control procedures for each method used.
• To properly care for all laboratory instruments.
• Prepare reagents and standards.
• To learn basic laboratory skills such as quantitative measuring and reagent preparation.
• To prepare duplicates and spikes accurately. To make sure spike amounts are recorded properly.
• To use only accepted methods as specified in the SOP Methods Manual without deviations.
• Assist in the preparation of new standards and standard curves.
• To make sure all data is recorded properly in bench books.
• To make sure that all bench sheets, forms and logbooks are properly documented and initialed.
• To make sure that no data is falsified on bench sheets and logbooks.

Abilities Required

The individual must have a good work ethic, be able to work independently and have basic math and computer skills. Organizational ability in prioritizing tasks will be important. Individual must be a team oriented individual with a desire to learn.
