About Penned
Penned helps SEO and PR agencies produce content for their clients, bringing together writers, editors and managed delivery.
We’re preparing to launch our new Webflow website and are looking for a student who wants practical experience in search engine optimisation. You’ll help us understand how potential customers search, improve our website and measure what happens after someone visits.
About the internship
You’ll contribute to supervised SEO projects, from researching search terms and improving pages to checking website performance and preparing reports.
The placement will have agreed learning objectives, regular feedback and a workload suited to your studies. You’ll receive guidance from a named supervisor and work alongside the people responsible for our website and content.
You'll be able to see the measurable impact you have on a business from Day 1 forwards, which you can use as portfolio evidence and work for future roles you apply for
What you’ll help with
Depending on your course requirements, interests and progress, you could:
- Research relevant search terms and the questions agency buyers ask.
- Suggest improvements to page titles, descriptions, headings and internal links.
- Help check the website for broken links, indexing issues and mobile usability problems.
- Support the setup and testing of Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console.
- Help prepare SEO briefs and check approved content before publication.
- Review search and website data, then explain your findings in short, useful reports.
- Research relevant publications, partners and opportunities to share Penned’s expertise.
Your recommendations will be reviewed before implementation. Technical changes will be handled with appropriate support from our website designer or an experienced reviewer.
What you’ll learn
You’ll gain experience in:
- Connecting keyword research to a specific audience and business purpose.
- Applying on-page and technical SEO principles to a Webflow website.
- Using Google Analytics 4 and Search Console to investigate performance.
- Assessing which improvements deserve attention first.
- Understanding how useful content and relevant industry coverage support organic discovery.
You’ll also have opportunities to develop portfolio examples from approved work, subject to confidentiality requirements.
Who we’re looking for
This role could suit a student studying marketing, communications, business, journalism, computing or a related subject. Students from other disciplines with a clear interest in SEO are welcome.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Understands basic SEO concepts and wants to build on them.
- Enjoys research and checking information carefully.
- Can work comfortably with spreadsheets and explain findings clearly.
- Organises tasks, asks questions and responds well to feedback.
Familiarity with Webflow, Google Analytics, Search Console or an SEO tool is useful, but professional experience isn’t required. Coursework, personal websites and student projects are all relevant.
Academic credit and placement arrangements
This is an unpaid placement intended for students completing an internship as part of their studies. Academic credit must be approved and awarded by your college or university.
Before the placement begins, we’ll agree learning objectives, supervision, working hours and any academic assessment requirements with you and, where required, your course coordinator.
The placement does not carry a promise of paid employment afterwards.
How to apply
Apply via email:
- Your résumé or CV.
- A short note explaining your interest in SEO and what you’d like to learn.
- An example of relevant coursework, research, website or content work, if available.
- Please include your preferred start date, weekly availability, placement length and academic-credit requirements.
Application deadline: November 9th
