Financial Analyst for Growing Healthcare Consulting Startup
About Griffin Healthcare Advisors
Griffin Healthcare Advisors is a growing healthcare consulting firm that helps physicians
successfully launch, operate, and grow independent medical practices. We work with physicians
across the country on the business side of medicine, including strategy, finance, marketing,
staffing, operations, compliance, and practice growth.
We are a small, highly capable team with an ambitious vision for growth and a strong reputation
for delivering thoughtful, high-quality work. As our client base expands, we are building deeper
areas of expertise within our consulting team, and financial analysis is one of the capabilities
central to the value we provide our clients.
We are looking for a Financial Analyst to become a key resource for financial planning, analysis,
reporting, and bookkeeping support across our client portfolio. Your work will help physicians
understand the financial health of their businesses, identify opportunities to improve profitability,
and make better-informed decisions about their practices.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to join Griffin at an exciting stage, develop
meaningful expertise in healthcare finance and business consulting, and grow into a more senior
role as our firm expands.
Who This Role Is Perfect For
This role is ideal for someone with at least two years of professional experience in finance,
accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), or a related analytical field who wants more
ownership, variety, and real-world impact than they might find in a traditional corporate finance
position.
You may currently work in financial analysis, accounting, consulting, healthcare administration,
or a growing business. You enjoy working with financial data, building models, investigating
problems, and understanding how businesses actually operate. You are equally comfortable
diving into the details of a spreadsheet and stepping back to consider the broader business
implications.
One day you might develop a three-year financial projection for a physician opening a new
dermatology practice. Another day you might analyze why an established practice's profitability
has declined, prepare a monthly performance dashboard, evaluate staffing costs, or help reconcile
financial transactions for a client.
You don't need to come in knowing everything about healthcare finance or medical practice
operations. We will teach you our clients, our methodologies, and the business of private medical
practice. What matters most is that you bring a strong analytical foundation, excellent Excel skills, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to turn financial information into
accurate, polished, and useful work.
The Role
The Financial Analyst will serve as a key member of Griffin's client delivery team, supporting
financial planning, performance analysis, reporting, and bookkeeping activities across our client
portfolio. You will work closely with our Client Relationship Managers to understand each
client's business, evaluate financial performance, and develop practical analyses and
recommendations.
For established medical practices, your work may include financial performance reviews,
profitability analysis, expense optimization, annual budgeting, monthly analytics reporting, and
bookkeeping support. You will help practice owners better understand their revenue, expenses,
margins, and opportunities to strengthen their financial position.
For physicians launching new practices, you will help develop startup budgets, multi-year
financial projections, and the supporting research and assumptions needed to evaluate the
financial viability of a new business. This includes modeling projected revenue, operating
expenses, staffing, startup investments, cash flow, and profitability.
You will also play an important role in the recurring financial and operational reporting we
provide our clients, collecting and organizing data, identifying trends, and helping transform
complex financial information into clear and actionable insights.
This is a hands-on analytical position. We are looking for someone who enjoys both the technical
work of building accurate financial analyses and the practical challenge of helping business
owners use that information to make better decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Business Performance
Analyze client financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, revenue
trends, expenses, and profitability.
Evaluate financial and operational performance to identify opportunities to improve
margins, reduce unnecessary costs, and strengthen business performance.
Develop annual budgets, financial goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for
established medical practices.
Support financial assessments involving pricing, provider productivity, staffing, payer
mix, accounts receivable, cash flow, and the financial implications of operational
decisions.
Prepare concise findings and practical recommendations that help clients understand what
the numbers mean and where management should focus its attention.
Startup Financial Planning & Modeling
Develop comprehensive startup budgets for physicians planning to launch new medical
practices.
Research and estimate startup expenditures, including office buildouts, medical
equipment, technology, staffing, marketing, supplies, and working capital requirements.
Build and refine multi-year financial projections and pro forma financial models using
Microsoft Excel.
Develop revenue and expense assumptions based on patient volume, provider capacity,
reimbursement rates, service mix, staffing plans, and other operating factors.
Evaluate projected cash flow, profitability, break-even timing, and capital requirements.
Monthly Analytics & Client Reporting
Prepare monthly financial and operational analytics reports for established medical
practice clients.
Gather, organize, and validate data from accounting systems, electronic medical records
(EMRs), practice management software, and other business platforms.
Track performance indicators such as collections, patient volume, provider productivity,
service-line performance, and progress toward financial goals.
Develop charts, tables, and visual summaries that communicate important findings
clearly.
Identify unusual trends, financial warning signs, and potential growth or efficiency
opportunities.
Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting Support
Assist with monthly bookkeeping activities for clients, primarily using QuickBooks
Online and related accounting tools.
Categorize financial transactions, reconcile bank and credit card accounts, and maintain
organized and accurate financial records.
Review transactions for potential errors, inconsistencies, unusual balances, and missing
information.
Assist with the preparation of quarterly financial performance reports, including revenue
and expense trends, profitability, and balance sheet analysis.
While finance and analytics will be your primary focus, Griffin is a collaborative consulting
firm. You may also be cross-trained in other areas of medical-practice consulting and
periodically assist with operations, research, business planning, or other client needs. As Griffin
grows, we expect this role to become increasingly concentrated in finance, analytics, and
financial advisory support.
What Success Looks Like
Become a trusted internal resource for financial analysis, modeling, and reporting across
Griffin's client portfolio.
Consistently produce accurate, well-organized, and polished client-ready financial
deliverables.
Develop a strong understanding of the economics and operational drivers of independent
medical practices.
Build financial models and analyses that are technically sound, based on reasonable
assumptions, and useful for decision-making.
Deliver dependable monthly analytics reports and bookkeeping support with strong
attention to accuracy and deadlines.
Help improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of Griffin's financial work through
better templates, processes, and analytical tools.
Begin identifying financial concerns and improvement opportunities proactively rather
than simply completing assigned tasks.
We are not hiring someone simply to maintain spreadsheets and prepare reports. We are looking
for someone who can help us strengthen and expand Griffin's financial advisory capabilities
while making a meaningful difference for the businesses we serve.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
Minimum of two years of relevant professional work experience following completion of
undergraduate studies.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial formulas, data analysis,
financial modeling, and spreadsheet organization.
Solid understanding of core financial concepts, including revenue, expenses, profitability,
cash flow, budgeting, and financial statements.
Experience analyzing financial information and translating findings into clear
conclusions or recommendations.
Strong numerical reasoning, analytical problem-solving abilities, and exceptional
attention to detail.
Ability to research unfamiliar topics, evaluate assumptions, and independently work
through analytical challenges.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial
information to non-financial audiences.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Comfort working independently while collaborating closely with a small team.
Strong judgment, initiative, curiosity, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
Experience with QuickBooks Online, financial forecasting, FP&A, bookkeeping, financial
dashboards, management reporting, healthcare finance, or professional services consulting is particularly valuable. We also value strong analytical ability, sound judgment, and a
demonstrated willingness to learn.
Why Join Griffin Healthcare Advisors
If you're tired of producing financial reports that disappear into a corporate reporting system, or
working on the same narrow set of analyses month after month, Griffin offers something
different.
Your work will be visible, your ideas will matter, and you will help real business owners make
important financial decisions. You'll work across multiple medical practices, specialties, markets,
and business challenges, gaining exposure to everything from the economics of a new practice
launch to the financial performance of an established multimillion-dollar business.
You'll also develop a combination of skills that can be difficult to acquire in a traditional finance
role: financial modeling, accounting fundamentals, operational analysis, business strategy, and
practical consulting experience. Rather than focusing exclusively on one piece of the financial
picture, you'll learn how the different parts of a business fit together.
Griffin is at an important point in its growth, and we expect our financial advisory and analytics
capabilities to expand significantly over time. The person who joins us now will have an
opportunity to help shape the models, tools, standards, and approaches future members of our
team will use.
For someone who performs at a high level, takes pride in their work, and wants to grow with the
firm, there will be meaningful opportunities for increased responsibility, specialization, and
leadership as Griffin continues to scale. If you enjoy understanding how businesses work, take
pride in accurate and thoughtful financial analysis, and want to build a career where your work
has a tangible impact, we'd be excited to hear from you.
