About the school and role

The mathematics team values clear explanations, carefully chosen examples and purposeful practice. Pupils are encouraged to reason, compare methods and see mistakes as useful information about what to learn next.
This full-time opportunity at a secondary school in Hertfordshire gives you the chance to establish your teaching with consistent classes. The team offers space to build confidence in lesson sequencing and learn how experienced colleagues respond to different starting points. Teaching allocation will be discussed against your training and subject strengths.

Your responsibilities

- Teach mathematics across the agreed KS3 and KS4 timetable, building fluency, reasoning and problem-solving.
- Sequence examples carefully and use representations to make abstract ideas accessible.
- Check understanding regularly and adapt teaching to address gaps without limiting ambition.
- Establish positive routines, adapt teaching for SEND and EAL, and communicate constructively with families.
- Work with colleagues, reflect on feedback and contribute to departmental planning.

What you will bring

- QTS, or currently working towards QTS with completion expected before the agreed teaching start date.
- Relevant school placement experience, a reflective approach and a willingness to act on feedback.
- Positive behaviour management, inclusive teaching and a strong commitment to safeguarding.
- Secure mathematical knowledge and the ability to explain ideas clearly using more than one approach.

A supported start

Build confidence in your subject teaching through collaborative planning, opportunities to learn from colleagues and focused feedback. Connect will discuss the school’s mentoring and induction arrangements with you before you accept, including whether the placement can count towards statutory ECT induction. Trainees are welcome to apply ahead of completing QTS.
