Preschool Substitute Teacher

Location: Lawrenceville, NJ / Trenton, NJ / Princeton, NJ (Onsite) Employment Type: Part-Time (16–40 hours/week)

About the Role 

We're looking for a reliable, nurturing Preschool Substitute Teacher to step in across our classrooms when teachers are out. You'll work with children ages 6 weeks–5 years, keeping routines on track and making sure every kid feels safe and supported — whether you're there for a day or a week (substitute assignments are flexible and may include full-day, half-day, occasional, or recurring shifts).

What you'll do - Follow existing lesson plans and daily schedules; adapt as needed based on the group - Supervise and engage children during free play, structured activities, meals, and rest time - Maintain a calm, positive classroom environment - Communicate observations about student behavior or needs to the lead teacher or director -  Step in for multiple classrooms or age groups as needed

About you - Experience working with young children in a school or childcare setting - Comfortable taking charge of a classroom you've never been in before - Patient, dependable, and good at reading a room - Familiar with age-appropriate activities and basic child development milestones - CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified

Must be able to safely interact with children at their level, including sitting on the floor, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, assisting with classroom routines, participating in indoor and outdoor play, and lifting up to 40 pounds when necessary and appropriate.

Nice to have - Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field - Prior substitute or classroom aide experience in a licensed preschool - Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus in some locations
