Quality Assurance Specialist
Company Description
Robatel Technologies designs and builds the radiation-protection systems that make nuclear work possible — hot cells, gloveboxes, Type B transport casks, shielded metallic structures, and waste-processing systems. We are the U.S. arm of the Robatel group, which has served industry since 1830 and the nuclear sector specifically since 1953. From our facility in Roanoke, Virginia, we deliver custom-engineered solutions to radiopharmaceutical producers, research institutions, national laboratories, and power generators, including the new generation of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Every system we ship is built to NQA-1 quality standards. Quality isn't a department that checks work at the end, it's built into how we design and fabricate from the start.
Role Description
We're looking for a Quality Assurance Specialist to own the day-to-day of our quality program. You'll bring a strong quality foundation from a regulated industry. If you already have NQA-1 experience, you'll put it to work right away; if not, we'll train you on NQA-1 and how it applies to custom nuclear manufacturing. This role demands exceptional attention to detail and rigor. In our work, a missed detail isn't a typo, it's a compliance and safety issue. You don't need prior nuclear experience. You do need to already understand what disciplined quality work looks like in a highly regulated environment.
What You'll Do
- Support and help run Robatel's NQA-1 quality program day to day alongside our Quality Assurance Manager.
- Prepare, review, and control quality documentation, records, and procedures.
- Conduct and support inspections and verification activities during fabrication.
- Manage nonconformances, corrective actions, and root-cause follow-up to closure.
- Plan and support internal and external audits and supplier quality activities.
- Build and apply expert knowledge of NQA-1 across our products and processes.
- Take on increasing ownership of the quality function as your experience grows.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of quality (QA/QC) experience in a highly regulated industry (nuclear not required).
- Exceptional attention to detail and rigor — this is the core of the role.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical, science, or engineering field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Willingness to learn and apply NQA-1 in our environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with NQA-1 or comparable quality standards.
- Quality certification (e.g., ASQ CQA/CQE) or interest in pursuing one.
- Manufacturing, inspection, or fabrication exposure.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to DOE and national-laboratory facilities; non-U.S. citizens may be subject to DOE foreign-national access review.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
Compensation
$75,000–$105,000 per year, depending on experience.
Work Environment
Full-time. We strongly prefer candidates in or near the Roanoke/Salem, VA area for a hybrid schedule, given the hands-on nature of quality work.
Travel
Approximately 25% travel, including international. Domestic travel supports supplier visits, site and audit activities, and client facilities. International travel, primarily to France, supports coordination and training with our sister company, and may include supplier or project quality activities abroad.
Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision insurance fully covered for individual coverage (up to $1,000/month)
- Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution fully covered for individual coverage
- Competitive retirement plan with company match
- Paid time off
- Professional development assistance
- Monthly cell phone stipend
- DashPass membership
- French-language tutoring to support collaboration with our French parent company
