Position Overview
Esther School – Pinellas Park is seeking a dependable, energetic, and creative teacher to lead a mixed-level classroom serving students in grades 7–12.
This is a full-time, classroom-based position with a firm schedule of 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position does not offer remote work, hybrid work, flexible scheduling, or part-time hours. The selected candidate must be available and present for the complete school day.
The position may be a strong opportunity for a recent college graduate, early-career educator, career-changing professional, developing teacher, or candidate working toward teacher certification. Administrative guidance, instructional materials, established campus policies, and ongoing support will be provided as needed.
Because we are a small school, the teacher must be comfortable supporting students across several grade levels, courses, ability levels, accommodations, and learning needs.
Primary Responsibilities
The teacher will:
Lead and supervise a mixed-level classroom serving students in grades 7–12.
Remain present and actively engaged with students throughout the school day.
Ensure students are never left unattended.
Support students as they complete courses through the Ignitia online learning platform.
Monitor student progress, grades, attendance, missing assignments, and weekly completion.
Work toward having students complete at least two assigned Ignitia units each week, based on individual needs and administrative guidance.
Use lesson blocking and pacing controls to prevent students from advancing too quickly, skipping assignments, or falling significantly behind.
Provide supplemental instruction through mini-lessons, guided notes, vocabulary reviews, educational games, classroom discussions, and hands-on activities.
Use approved learning tools such as Wayground, Kahoot, Quizizz, and other engaging educational resources.
Assign and review weekly worksheets, learning logs, fiction-reading logs, vocabulary exercises, quizzes, tests, written responses, and signature projects.
Make sure students understand that each week has specific assignments and progress expectations that must be completed.
Break larger signature projects into smaller weekly steps with clear deadlines.
Require students to physically write and submit projects and classwork when appropriate.
Hand-grade written work and provide clear, meaningful feedback.
Keep an individual academic file for every student.
Place a copy of important graded assignments and signature projects in each student’s file before returning the original work to the student.
Allow older students to use Google Docs or Microsoft Word for approved assignments when appropriate.
Ensure digital work is submitted through a school-approved platform or school email—not through a teacher’s personal email account.
Monitor student computer activity and prevent unauthorized AI use, plagiarism, copied work, inappropriate websites, or unrelated browsing.
Provide accommodations and alternative assignments for students with documented medical, physical, behavioral, or learning needs.
Assist with structured PE, health instruction, enrichment, outdoor activities, brain breaks, study periods, or other school activities when assigned.
Communicate student progress, missing work, attendance concerns, academic difficulties, and behavioral concerns to the principal.
Contact parents or guardians when directed and document important communication.
Complete incident reports, intervention records, student progress notes, and other required school documentation.
Attend required Monday staff meetings, professional-development activities, and administrative conferences.
Follow all school policies regarding FERPA, confidentiality, discipline, classroom supervision, student records, technology, phones, devices, attendance, and campus safety.
Weekly Student Expectations
The teacher will help students complete the following each week:
At least two assigned Ignitia units when appropriate
Required worksheets and written classwork
Vocabulary practice and review
Learning-log entries
Fiction-reading-log entries when assigned
Quizzes, tests, and assessments
Assigned portions of signature projects
Corrections, revisions, or makeup work
Supplemental activities assigned by the teacher
Signature projects must be completed by the required deadline. Projects are expected to count for approximately 10% of the student’s course grade, while quizzes and tests are expected to count for approximately 15%, subject to final school grading policies.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
A bachelor’s degree or be nearing completion of an appropriate degree program
A background in education, history, social science, English, mathematics, science, special education, child development, or a related field
Experience working with middle-school or high-school students
Strong classroom-management and organizational skills
Basic computer and educational-technology skills
The ability to support students at different grade, academic, and ability levels
The ability to provide clear instructions and break assignments into manageable steps
Patience, professionalism, dependability, creativity, and strong communication skills
A willingness to work within and support a Christian school environment
Teacher certification is preferred but may not be required for the right developing-teacher candidate, depending on the school’s requirements and final administrative approval.
Candidates currently enrolled in college may apply only if they can work the complete Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. schedule without interruption.
Employment Requirements
The selected candidate must:
Pass all required background screening and fingerprinting
Complete all required employment paperwork and training
Maintain reliable and punctual attendance
Maintain professional boundaries with students and families
Protect confidential student, family, and personnel information
Follow the school’s Christian mission, policies, procedures, and administrative direction
Remain in the assigned classroom or supervision area unless properly relieved by another staff member
Maintain accurate student files, grades, progress records, and classroom documentation
Compensation and Professional Growth
The anticipated salary range is $24,000–$30,000 for the 10-month school-year position.
Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s education, relevant experience, certifications, classroom-management abilities, and the school’s available funding.
At the end of the school year, compensation and continued employment may be reviewed based on:
Overall job performance
Classroom management
Student progress
Reliability and attendance
Professional growth
Completion of certification or professional-development goals
Student enrollment
Available school funding
Continuing campus staffing needs
This position offers the opportunity to grow with the Pinellas Park campus as enrollment and programming expand. However, a future raise, contract renewal, or continued employment cannot be guaranteed.
