About KangaCook

KangaCook (kangacook.ai) is an early-stage food media startup on a mission to make home cooking approachable for everyone. We turn recipes from every corner of the world into clear, easy-to-follow guides, videos, and stories, so anyone can confidently cook anything from Scallion Stir-Fried Pork Jowl to a weeknight pasta at home. We’re a small, fast-moving team, and this role has real ownership from day one.

What You’ll Own

Web Platform Development

  • Build and ship new features for kangacook.ai, from recipe pages to user accounts and saved collections
  • Develop responsive, fast-loading front-end experiences that work beautifully on mobile, where most home cooks read recipes
  • Design and maintain APIs and databases that power our recipe library

Recipe Experience & Tools

  • Build interactive cooking features such as serving-size scaling, unit conversion, step-by-step cook mode, and shopping lists
  • Develop internal tools that help our content team publish and update recipes quickly
  • Explore AI-powered features like recipe search, ingredient substitution suggestions, and personalized recommendations

Performance & SEO Engineering

  • Implement structured data (recipe schema) and technical SEO best practices to help our recipes rank in search
  • Optimize Core Web Vitals, page speed, and image delivery across the site
  • Set up analytics instrumentation with GA4 and work with marketing on A/B tests

Code Quality & Infrastructure

  • Write clean, tested, maintainable code and lead code reviews
  • Own deployment pipelines, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure
  • Shape our technical architecture and engineering practices as we scale

What We’re Looking For

Must-haves

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 0–3 years of professional software engineering experience; strong new grads are encouraged to apply
  • Solid programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or a similar modern language
  • Experience building and shipping full-stack web applications
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Self-directed and comfortable in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with React or Next.js
  • Back-end experience with Node.js, Python (FastAPI/Django), or similar, plus SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Vercel) and CI/CD
  • Experience with LLM APIs or building AI-powered features
  • Understanding of technical SEO and web performance
  • A love of cooking, or at least of eating
  • A GitHub profile or portfolio of projects you’ve built
