2027 Summer Intern, Disaster Management Financial Analyst

ICF's Disaster Management Division works with government agencies and communities to design and implement grant programs that support recovery from disasters and promote increased resilience to disasters. Our functional expertise is in program management and operations, planning and preparedness, technical assistance and training, strategic communications and outreach, compliance and monitoring, and performance measurement and evaluation. Clients include states and localities administering the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funded disaster recovery programs.

This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2027. Work may be hybrid from our Tallahassee, FL, Baton Rouge, LA, or Austin, TX offices. At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist management with tasks associated with grants, reporting, financials, and other administrative tasks
  • Work as part of a team reviewing the accuracy of the data presented in written documents and systems
  • Project/task delivery and support
  • Support the design of end-to-end data visualizations/reporting solutions, from data extraction to the presentation, to address the clients' needs
  • Interface with clients and other contractors to solicit information and communicate deadlines
  • Support case managers, grant administrators and specialists with tasks that advance applicants through application review or project implementation stages
  • Assist with special initiatives and research needs
  • May assist with development of standard operating procedures, checklists, and policies.

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of 30 complete college level credit hours with an emphasis on Public Policy, Finance, Emergency Management, Homeland Security or similar field

Preferred Qualifications

  • A completed bachelors degree AND enrollment verification in a graduate program focusing on Public Policy, Finance, Emergency Management, Homeland Security or similar field
  • Prior experience as an intern focused on Disaster Management, FEMA or related area
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Experience conducting research, organizing, and analyzing information
  • Experience writing detailed guidance, proposals, and procedural materials
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Data-entry experience
  • Strong time management skills
  • Consistent attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other mapping platforms
