Part-Time STEAM Course Instructor (AI, Design, Coding & Robotics for Elementary Students)
About Us
Yuniverse Academy is a Central Florida STEAM enrichment program that teaches elementary students to understand and create with AI, not just use it. We run hands-on afterschool and weekend courses at host schools in the Winter Park / Greater Orlando area. Our belief is simple: kids should be builders, not just consumers of technology.
The Role
We're looking for a part-time instructor to lead small-group afterschool and/or weekend classes for elementary students, starting January 2027. This is a part-time W-2 position averaging about 4 hours per week. Courses include:
- AI literacy: how AI learns, sees, and makes mistakes, taught through play and hands-on activities
- AI + 3D printing and art/design:kids sketch, use AI tools to turn ideas into art, music, and 3D models
- Coding and robotics: block-based coding with the BBC micro:bit, sensors, and simple robots
We provide the course materials, lesson plans, and hardware. You bring them to life by adapting and customizing the content to fit each group of kids, their interests, and their pace.
What You'll Do
- Teach engaging, hands-on lessons to groups of roughly 8-20 elementary students (K thru 5)
- Adapt and personalize provided curriculum for different ages, skill levels, and classroom dynamics
- Create a warm, safe, encouraging classroom where every child feels capable
- Set up and manage equipment (laptops, micro:bits, robots, art materials)
- Share brief progress notes and student highlights with our team and families
- Help shape future courses with your ideas and classroom feedback
Who We're Looking For
Most important: you genuinely love working with kids and care about education. We can teach you the technology; we can't teach patience, warmth, and enthusiasm for watching a child figure something out.
You'll also have:
- Experience working with children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, mentoring, etc.)
- Comfort with technology and a willingness to learn new tools — no expert coding background required
- Reliability and clear communication with students, families, and school staff
- Ability to pass a Level 2 background screening (required by our partner schools)
- Reliable transportation to travel between host school sites
Nice to have:
- Coursework or experience in education, computer science, engineering, art, design, or music
- Experience with Scratch, MakeCode, micro:bit, 3D printing, or AI tools
Why Join Us
- $30–$40/hour based on experience, plus mileage reimbursement for travel between sites
- Paid training and classroom shadowing before you teach on your own
- Flexible schedule (about 4 hours/week) that fits around your classes
- Ready-to-teach curriculum and hardware, so you can focus on the kids
- Real classroom experience in a fast-growing field: AI education
- Creative input into new courses as we grow, with potential for more hours over time
How to Apply
Apply through Handshake with your resume and a short note (a few sentences is fine) telling us about a moment working with kids that made you love it.
