2027 Summer Intern, Research & Analysis (Reston, VA; New York, NY)

Join our cross-cutting Strategic Enablement & Emerging Solutions team as a Research & Analysis Intern, providing support across multiple workstreams that support ICF’s dynamic utility programs practice. This internship offers hands-on experience in market research, data analysis and visualization, and industry strategy. As an intern, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to the development of high-quality products and services, and gain exposure to programs and client interactions. This experience is designed to help build foundational skills in project management, communication, and teamwork, while deepening your understanding of energy-efficient technologies and utility-sponsored programs.

This is a full-time, 10-week internship that will begin in early June 2027. This role can be hybrid from Reston, VA or New York, NY. At this time, relocation or housing assistance is not available. Pay is expected to be $23/hour for undergraduate interns and $28/hour for graduate interns.

 

Anticipated Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with domain leads and teams across multiple disciplines to support ongoing tasks and ad-hoc needs
  • Support research and analysis on utility programs, emerging energy technologies, distributed energy resources (DERs), virtual power plants (VPPs), electrification, and related areas
  • Develop dashboards, presentations, and visualizations that support business strategy and client delivery
  • Support product development and commercialization initiatives for innovative energy solutions
  • Assist with business development activities, proposal support, and strategic planning efforts
  • Synthesize complex information into concise summaries and recommendations

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 30 completed college-level credit hours and actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Energy, Sustainability, Engineering, Economics, Business, Data Analytics, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Marketing, or a related field
  • Candidate must be a US citizen, reside in the U.S., be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A completed bachelor’s degree and enrollment verification in a master’s program or 9 credit hours complete in graduate coursework in Energy, Sustainability, Engineering, Economics, Business, Data Analytics, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Marketing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with data analytics, visualization, or reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Excel Power Query, or similar platforms
  • Experience using AI-enabled productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT) for research, analysis, or content development
  • Interest in emerging energy technologies, including distributed energy resources, battery storage, load flexibility, demand response, and electrification
  • Strong intellectual curiosity, ability to solve complex problems, and enthusiasm to learn beyond what is required for daily tasks
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment and a capability to prioritize tasks; strong time management, analytical, and inter-personal skills
