Jewish Heritage Day School in Amherst, NY, is seeking a caring, motivated, and engaging teacher to join our middle school team. This part-time afternoon position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students’ academic growth in a warm, supportive school environment.

Our middle school classes average just 6–7 students, allowing teachers to build strong relationships with students and provide individualized attention.

Position Details

  • Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 12:30–4:00 PM; Friday, 12:30–3:00 PM
  • Hours: Approximately 16.5 hours per week
  • Location: In person, Amherst, NY
  • Compensation: $22–$35 per hour, based on qualifications, certification, and experience

Responsibilities

  • Teach 8th-grade mathematics.
  • Teach 5th-grade science.
  • Provide one additional period of student support, which may include academic intervention, resource support, or enrichment.
  • Prepare engaging lessons that help students develop strong academic skills.
  • Adapt instruction to meet students’ different learning needs.
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and well-managed classroom.

Qualifications

  • A background in mathematics, science, education, or a related field is preferred.
  • New York State teaching certification is preferred.
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or other relevant educational experience is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, dependability, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed.
