Playground Partner

Description: Under general supervision, playground partners implement sports and fitness programs at designated elementary school sites. They ensure the proper operations of all facilities to ensure the safety of students.

  • The main task of a playground partner is to conduct sports and fitness instruction to groups of students, provide instructor training, and facility maintenance.
  • Examples of sports and fitness programs include basketball, soccer, and baseball as well as various typical physical education games.
  • Playground partners assist in planning, scheduling, and implementing programming. They monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Playground partners maintain accurate records of daily safety check lists and student participation and compile program and member statistics as requested by the YMCA management.
  • Playground partners notify the program director of all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Playground partners perform related work as required.
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Wage: $18.00 per hour

  • Qualifications: All playground partners must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma. Having at least an AA degree is preferred.
  • Qualified candidates must have at least 1 year of experience in sports and fitness as well as experience working with children.
  • Successful candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate with those of different backgrounds, education and administrative levels.
  • They also must have strong organizational skills with attention-to-detail without losing focus of the global perspective and the ability to multi-task.
  • Successful candidates can effectively train staff for sports and fitness programs and follow safety policies.
  • All potential employees must submit to and comply with all requirements for employment including, but not limited to, a criminal background check, drug and alcohol testing, health screening, and tuberculosis test.
  • Employees must be CPR/first aid certified within the first 30 days of employment and kept current for condition of continued employment. The Anaheim Family YMCA periodically provides CPR/first aid training to staff who need certification.
