As a Zumba/Dance Fitness Instructor, you create an energetic and welcoming experience where participants of all backgrounds and fitness levels can move, connect, and build healthier habits. Through music, motivation, and inclusive instruction, you help members improve their physical and mental well-being while fostering a sense of belonging and community that reflects the YMCA's mission and values.
How You Make an Impact
- Design and lead dance-based fitness classes with choreographed routines suitable for participants of all levels.
- Provide modifications to accommodate different abilities and fitness levels.
- Maintain participant safety while encouraging proper form, posture, and movement.
- Cultivate a fun, energetic, and motivating class atmosphere that encourages member participation and retention.
- Prepare and maintain the fitness area, including sound systems, props, and other equipment, ensuring cleanliness and safety.
- Promote YMCA programs, events, and wellness initiatives to class participants.
- Complete required attendance, incident reports, or other documentation.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and fitness training to stay current on dance fitness trends.
- Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
- Become an ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by sharing the story of who we are as an organization and brand.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Y
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Current Zumba® Instructor certification or other nationally recognized dance fitness certification required.
- Ability to lead safe, energetic, and engaging dance fitness classes for participants with varying fitness levels and experience.
- Ability to learn, follow, and teach choreographed routines while maintaining proper form and movement technique.
- Strong communication and motivational skills with the ability to inspire participation and create a positive class experience.
- Ability to provide modifications and movement options to support participants of different abilities and fitness levels.
- Ability to maintain a high-energy, professional presence while managing class flow and participant engagement.
- Successful audition and approval by the Health & Wellness Director or Coordinator prior to teaching classes.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications preferred; if required for the role, certification must be obtained within a timeframe determined by the department.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Pay Range
$18-$36 per class, DOE
