Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education SDD Teacher to join our team. In this role, you will plan, deliver, and evaluate specially designed instruction tailored for young learners experiencing Significant Developmental Delays. You will work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and families to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), manage classroom behavior, build foundational academic and developmental skills, and ensure complete IDEIA due process compliance.
Qualifications
Required:
- Certification: Georgia Educator Certification in Special Education or the ability to obtain certification as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Preferred:
- Previous experience teaching special education or early childhood students with developmental delays.
Core Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of the GCPS Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum and effective early childhood special education practices.
- Expertise in IDEIA regulations, due process, and writing/implementing comprehensive IEP goals.
- Proficiency in formative and summative assessment strategies, data collection, and research based instructional methods.
- Ability to integrate classroom technology to support student engagement and learning.
- Ability to support physical and personal care needs (toileting, feeding, positioning, mobility/lifting) as needed.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with families, colleagues, and administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Curriculum Execution: Deliver direct and specially designed instruction aligned with district AKS standards and individual student IEP goals; adapt learning materials, games, and structured activities to meet diverse learning needs.
- Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Administer screening tools and diagnostic assessments; track student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies based on data.
- Classroom & Behavior Management: Create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment conducive to early childhood development; establish clear expectations and positive behavior intervention strategies.
- Due Process & Compliance: Manage special education records, coordinate and participate in IEP/eligibility meetings, and ensure full compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines.
- Physical & Student Care Support: Assist with students' physical, personal, and medical needs when appropriate, including mobility support, feeding, toileting, and safe travel throughout the school campus.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with general education teachers, instructional paraprofessionals, therapists, and parents to foster a unified support network for every child.
