About TVCH
Tennessee Valley Coalition for the Homeless is a nonprofit organization dedicated to housing individuals experiencing homelessness, educating the community, and equipping stakeholders to provide lasting solutions to homelessness.
Our vision is a region where homelessness is rare and lasts less than 30 days. We believe everyone deserves access to safe, decent, and affordable housing. Serving 12 rural counties in East Tennessee, we work with community partners to address housing insecurity and connect individuals and families with essential resources.
About the Position
TVCH is seeking a compassionate, dependable AmeriCorps Street Outreach Coordinator to support our Street Outreach and Mobile Shower Trailer programs.
This hands-on service opportunity involves working directly with individuals and families experiencing homelessness or unstable housing. You will help distribute essential supplies, connect people with housing and community resources, maintain client documentation, organize donations, and assist with shower trailer events throughout East Tennessee.
The member reports to the Director of Outreach and works closely with the Outreach Manager to support daily outreach activities.

- Enter client information, services, and referrals into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) accurately and promptly.
- Help collect, sort, organize, store, and distribute donations, hygiene supplies, clothing, food, and other outreach materials.
- Assist with Mobile Shower Trailer events, including loading supplies, setting up the site, supporting services during events, and breaking down afterward.
- Keep outreach supplies, equipment, vehicles, and work areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for use.
- Work with TVCH staff and community partners to support appropriate client services and follow-up.
- Participate in outreach events, meetings, training, and other assigned service activities.
- Follow TVCH policies regarding safety, confidentiality, HMIS, and professional conduct.
Qualifications
- Comfortable working directly with individuals experiencing homelessness and treating every person with patience, respect, and compassion.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with case management software is a plus.
- Ability to participate in regular outreach activities and travel throughout TVCH’s service area.
- Ability to complete the full-time AmeriCorps service commitment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Service is primarily in person, with the opportunity to work from home one to two days per week. The role involves:
- Remaining on your feet and active for extended periods.
- Working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
- Walking or hiking through uneven or difficult terrain to reach clients.
- Spending up to five hours in a vehicle while traveling between outreach locations.
- Lifting up to 75 pounds when needed and repeatedly carrying smaller supplies, donations, tables, and equipment.

- $7,395 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful program completion.
- Health insurance at no cost and child care assistance for eligible full-time members.
- Student loan deferment or forbearance for eligible loans while serving.
- 20 hours of sick leave and 20 hours of vacation leave, available after earning the additional service time required.
- Mileage reimbursement for AmeriCorps-required travel; day-to-day mileage is the member’s responsibility.
- Personal and professional development through training and hands-on nonprofit experience.
Service Commitment
This is a full-time AmeriCorps service opportunity requiring completion of 1,700 service hours. Members generally serve 40 hours per week, allowing them to accumulate the additional service time needed for leave while completing required hours. Leave does not count toward required service hours.
