Library Associate - Adult Services (Part Time)
SUMMARY
The Part-Time Library Associate – Adult Services provides excellent customer service by assisting library patrons with locating library resources, answering reference questions, referrals to community resources, and providing detailed technology assistance. Plans, develops, and delivers adult programs and classes.
This is a part-time role with hours ranging from 20-28 hours a week. The anticipated schedule is as follows:
- Friday: 9-5 pm
- Saturday: 9-5 pm
- Sunday: 11-5 pm
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Adult Services Supervisor

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
CUSTOMER SERVICE & TECHNOLOGY (50%)
- Uses high-level customer service skills to determine and respond to patron needs. Creates a positive inviting atmosphere for all patrons.
- Daily assist patrons with research, reference inquiries, and locating library materials.
- Provide Daily provide readers’ advisory services by recommending books, audiobooks, and digital content tailored to patrons’ interests.
- Supports patron access to and awareness of digital resources.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of library resource guides, booklists, and displays to enhance patron engagement
- Helps monitor and troubleshoot technology provided for patrons, including public computers and Tech lab equipment.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: (25%)
- Assists with planning, promoting, implementing and evaluating adult programs and classes.
- Assists with maintaining outreach partnerships throughout the community and updating current information on community resources.
- Supports delivery of materials to patrons at outreach locations on a regular basis.
- Maintains up-to-date information on community resources.
- May represent the library at school, community group, business or government meetings or events.
OPERATIONAL SUPPORT (20%)
- Supports projects managed by the Adult Services Supervisor and the Adult Services Librarian.
- Participates in the responsibility for the general appearance and safety of the Library as a whole. Assists in opening and closing procedures.
- Keeps current on Library policies and procedures. Monitors adherence to policies and procedures and/or communicates policies to patrons as necessary.
- Stays current on new trends and technologies in library service. Stays aware of library services and programs as well as current activities of the department and City.
- Collect, tabulate, maintain data and prepare standardized reports.
- Assists with evaluating and maintaining the existing collection through recommendations and weeding of materials in accordance with established guidelines.
- May participate in the Collection Development Team purchasing for collections as delegated by the Adult Services Supervisor.
- Develops and utilizes reader’s advisory tools to increase patron usage of collection
- May work directly with volunteers.
- May participate in City committees and taskforces.
Other Duties & Responsibilities 5%
- Assist in coverage of other service points in the library besides the Reference desk.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in any field required
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of customer service experience required; library and/or bookstore experience preferred.

- Fluency in Spanish highly valued
PHYSICAL EXERTION
☒ Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a standard library environment, requiring standing for extended periods of time. Work may also be performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs.). This job requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for extended periods of time.

HOURLY PAY RANGE
$22.31 - $33.47/Hourly Rate
